Sihir Pelakor [Movie Review] | I’d been eagerly waiting to watch this movie ever since I first heard about it.
So when it finally dropped on Netflix under the title 'Cursed', you know I absolutely had to press play.
But the real question is: Was it worth all that anticipation?

- Early drafts included darker rituals and more of Rini’s magic, but these were cut to avoid censorship and keep the focus on family trauma.
- Though fictional, Sabdo Pandito is inspired by real Javanese incantations believed to influence emotions, willpower, and relationships—rituals many Indonesians still fear exist today.

Edi is adored by his two children, Vita and Dwi. They are so attached to him that their mother, Jumiati, who often works long hours at her salon, feels almost like an afterthought in the family.
Edi understands that Jumiati works hard for them and he wants his children to appreciate her sacrifices too.
One day, Edi asks Vita to accompany her little brother, Dwi, to a football match because he plans to stay home and clean the house. In the middle of the match, Vita needs to use the washroom and decides to go home.
What she sees there changes everything.
Edi is in her parents’ bedroom with another woman. Shocked, Vita freezes, but Edi quickly warns her not to tell her mother.
From that moment onward, Vita can no longer see her father the same way. She still believes that her mother’s long hours at the salon are the reason her father strayed.
Then comes the day Edi is assigned to work outstation. He bids everyone goodbye, while Vita stands silently at the door. Everything feels normal, just another one-week work trip.

But nothing is normal.
When neighbours ask Jumiati where Edi has been, the truth finally clicks. Edi has not been home for the past one and a half years. Time slipped unnaturally for the family and they genuinely believed he had only been gone for a week.
Edi was not away working. He was not stranded or missing.
He was with another woman, Rini. And Rini was not just any woman. She practiced Sabdo Pandito, an ancient Javanese dark spell powerful enough to manipulate thoughts, emotions and even fate.
When an ustaz finally reveals that Edi is trapped under the influence of Sabdo Pandito, everything begins to make sense.
Vita, refusing to accept the situation, searches for her father and begs him to return, only to be scolded and pushed away.
Meanwhile, her mother’s health begins to deteriorate rapidly. She becomes too weak to work, too fragile to fight the unseen forces attacking their home.
With the ustaz’s guidance, Vita and Jumiati gather all the strength they have left to battle the witchcraft surrounding them, but the damage may already be irreversible.
Will Edi ever return to his family or has the spell already claimed him for good?

MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- A great cast - I really hated Rini.
- It doesn’t rely solely on horror; it explores every aspect of our lives.
What I Don't Like:
- The ending kinda hanging - I want closure.
Will I Watch It Again: I probably would, but not in my top choices.
Overall: 4.2/ 5.0
