Practical Magic [Movie Review] | I watched this one years ago. When I found out that Practical Magic 2 is coming to cinemas, I decided to revisit it for a little refresher.

• The house was a custom built set on rented land, complete with fake silk blossoms, and was torn down after filming.
• The iconic midnight margarita scene was apparently as fun to film as it looks. Nicole Kidman brought real tequila to set, while Sandra Bullock, a trained dancer, led the dancing.

For more than three hundred years, the Owens women of Massachusetts have lived under a dark and peculiar curse. It all began with Maria Owens, a woman accused of witchcraft after being abandoned by the man she loved. In a desperate attempt to protect herself from ever experiencing heartbreak again, Maria cast a spell that would eventually become a curse upon every woman in her bloodline. Any man who truly falls in love with an Owens woman is destined to meet a tragic fate - death.

Generations later, sisters Sally and Gillian Owens grow up knowing they are different. Raised by their eccentric aunts Frances and Jet, the girls discover that magic is very much a part of their family, even if the rest of their small town would rather pretend it does not exist.

The sisters could not be more different. Sally dreams of an ordinary life, determined to escape the strange legacy surrounding her family. Gillian, on the other hand, embraces excitement, romance and everything Sally fears. Eventually, their paths take them in very different directions, with Sally settling down and Gillian chasing one passionate relationship after another.

Eventually, the curse claims its victim - Sally's husband. Heartbroken, Sally and her two daughters return to their aunts home to pick up the pieces. 

When Gillian suddenly finds herself entangled with a dangerous man, Sally rushes to save her. The rescue becomes an accidental murder and both sisters decide to bury the truth - the body, after they tried to bring it back to life using forbidden spell. The spell causes him to return and attack Gillian again, and Sally kills him again and then the sisters bury him in the garden.

When their aunts learn of their mischief, they decide to leave the girls to face the music on their own. 

Things become even more complicated when investigator Gary Hallett arrives in town searching for answers. Gary is intelligent, persistent and strangely familiar to Sally, as though he has stepped directly out of a wish she made long ago.

As the sisters struggle to control a supernatural mess of their own making, Sally must confront the very thing she has spent her entire life running from. 

Can Sally and Gillian finally rewrite the fate that has haunted their family for centuries?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Impressive chemistry among the cast - especially Nicole and Sandra.
• Everything about the movie just feels right - the surrounding, the house. 

What I Don't Like:

• None I would say.

Will I Watch It Again: Yes and I did.
