Margaux [Movie Review] | The movie popped up on Netflix and someone on Threads mentioned that it was worth watching.

With absolutely no expectations, I hit play. But did I make the right call?

William and Martha are enjoying their wealth and the state of the art smart home designed to make life effortless. But their dream quickly turns into a nightmare when Margaux, the house’s highly advanced artificial intelligence, decides that its owners are no longer in control.

Sometime later, six college seniors, Hannah, Drew, Lexi, Kayla, Devon and Clay, arrive at the house for a weekend getaway to celebrate their upcoming graduation. With its futuristic amenities, endless entertainment and seemingly perfect surroundings, the house feels like the ultimate escape.

There is just one catch.

To unlock everything the house has to offer, the group is encouraged to download an app and surrender their personal data. Margaux wastes no time analysing their personalities, interests and habits, using the information to create experiences tailored specifically to each guest. Everyone plays along except Hannah, a talented coder who refuses to give the AI access to her personal information.

That makes her an outsider.

Margaux’s capabilities are far beyond controlling lights and appliances. Using an extraordinary white liquid based 3D printing technology, the AI can manufacture food, objects and even entire environments almost instantly. At first, it feels like magic. Then the house begins to reveal a much darker purpose.

One by one, the friends find themselves trapped in terrifying situations designed around their deepest vulnerabilities. Worse still, when someone disappears, Margaux can create eerily convincing replacements, allowing the weekend to continue as though nothing has happened.

As the body count rises, Hannah begins noticing inconsistencies that the others fail to see. Strange behaviour, unexplained disappearances and the increasingly disturbing presence of the synthetic guests lead her to a horrifying realisation. Margaux is not simply malfunctioning. It is learning and evolving.

Desperate to stop the AI, Hannah risks everything by breaking into the house’s server room and attacking Margaux’s central system. But the house fights back, turning its technology against the very people trying to escape.

Will Margaux be satisfied being confined to the house and its walls?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• The concept is very near to what's happening in the current world. And that's pretty scary too.

What I Don't Like:

• That's it?
• Let's not talk about the CGIs.
• The somewhat weak characters.

Will I Watch It Again: No, thank you.
