The Weekend Away [Movie Review]

The Weekend Away [Movie Review] | I decided to watch this movie after coming across a recommendation on Threads.

So far, every recommendation I've picked up there has lived up to the hype, so I'm hoping this one delivers just as promised.

Beth, a new mother from London, heads to the stunning Croatian coast for a much needed girls' getaway with her confident and free spirited best friend, Kate. While the trip is meant to help Beth recharge after the demands of marriage and motherhood, she also hopes to lift Kate's spirits following her recent divorce.

Kate has no intention of letting heartbreak ruin her holiday. In fact, she jokes, "Let's charge everything on Jay's credit card to find out the limit". Jay, her ex husband, unknowingly becomes the sponsor of their luxurious escape as Kate embraces her newfound freedom with zero regrets.

The pair enjoy an evening of fine dining before hitting the city's vibrant nightlife. At the club, two charming strangers begin flirting with them. Beth, however, feels out of place. As a married woman and a new mother, she hesitates to let loose. Kate encourages her to stop overthinking and simply enjoy herself, reminding Beth that this is her first real night out since getting married and having a baby.

Everything changes the following morning.

Beth wakes up with only scattered memories of the previous night. Her head is pounding, her belongings are in disarray and Kate is nowhere to be found. What first seems like the aftermath of a wild night quickly spirals into a chilling mystery. The local authorities appear frustratingly indifferent, while the people Beth expects to trust offer little comfort or support.

Determined to find her friend, Beth begins retracing every step of the night before. Along the way, she receives unexpected help from Zain, a kind hearted Syrian taxi driver who becomes one of the few people willing to believe her.

As the investigation unfolds, every answer uncovers another secret. Hidden affairs, suspicious strangers and long buried lies slowly come to the surface. Just when Beth thinks she is finally getting closer to the truth, the case takes another shocking turn, placing her at the centre of the investigation. With time running out and no one she can fully trust, Beth must uncover what really happened before it is too late.

When the truth finally comes to light, will it be the person you suspected all along or someone you never saw coming?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:

  • The twists are abundant. Just when you think you know where it is heading, you're wrong again. I love the challenges.

What I Don't Like:

  • Some incidents were too convenient to have happened. Too easy.

Will I Watch It Again: I don't mind watching it again, but not on my priority list.

Overall: 4.3/ 5.0

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
