They Will Kill You [Movie Review] | Once again, I found myself asking, how did this movie slip past me without a single trailer in sight?
I was honestly hesitant at first. It wasn’t even on my radar. But the moment I finally watched the trailer, something clicked and I bought a ticket almost instantly.
Now the real question is, did the trailer actually lead me to the right decision?

- A hidden hole behind a kitchen cabinet once connected director Kirill Sokolov’s flat to his neighbor's unit. Joking that the elderly tenants were a cult waiting to crawl through and sacrifice him, that very paranoia became the script.
- Manhattan may be the setting, but the Virgil was actually built on soundstages in Cape Town. No real New York high-rise would permit the production to drench its hallways in the staggering amount of blood required for the script.

Desperate to escape their father’s abusive shadow, Asia and Maria Reaves made a break for freedom that ended in a spray of glass and gunfire at a corner store. When the smoke cleared, Asia was in handcuffs for pulling the trigger, leaving a terrified Maria trapped in the very nightmare they tried to outrun.
Ten years later, Asia arrives at The Virgil, a New York luxury mansion, posing as the new maid.
Lily, the building’s manager, waxes poetic about the Virgil’s century-old history and its elite residents. Yet, beneath the gold leaf and marble, the building breathes with something ancient. Asia’s first night in the staff quarters is interrupted by masked intruders, including high-society vultures Kevin and Sharon. They expect a victim. They find a whirlwind of professional violence instead. Asia doesn't just defend herself, she demolish anything that stands in her way.

The thing is, these people comes back to life like nothing had happened to them minutes earlier. Now, thanks to those years fighting in prison, Asia is strong but she is certainly not prepared to fight some immortal lunatics. She runs. Still trapped inside The Virgil, she manages to find a trap door that leads to a maze of secret passage in the vent.
Saved by Ray, Lily’s disillusioned husband, Asia learns the Virgil is not as it seem from outside. The building is a temple to a dark deity and its residents have traded their humanity for immortality, fueled by human sacrifice. Amidst the chaos of sentient, severed eyeballs and regenerating limbs, Asia finally finds Maria. But Maria isn't a prisoner. She is a convert. She has traded the filth of roadside motels for the bloody comforts of the cult and she isn't looking for a way out.
Learning the hard truth, Asia faces dead end. The cult demands a final sacrifice to cement Maria's place in their eternal circle.
Will Maria trade family for immortality?
