Vacancy [Movie Review] | The movie was recommended by a TikTok user who claimed it was seriously underrated.
Curious, I decided to give it a watch. Did I make the right choice?

- Kate Beckinsale reportedly struggled working with Luke Wilson, who often arrived late, hungover and unprepared.
- When Wilson refused to read lines off-camera for her scenes, Beckinsale eventually sent a photo of herself instead with a note: “Read your lines to this—it’ll be better for both of us.”
- The Pinewood Motel was specially built for the film rather than being a real location. It consisted of two separate sets: one for the exterior and one for the interior.

David and Amy Fox barely speak to one another anymore. The death of their young son has carved a quiet distance between them, leaving their marriage fragile and uncertain. The long drive home from a family gathering only deepens that silence. Somewhere along the interstate, an accident brings traffic to a crawl, prompting David to take what he believes is a faster shortcut through the mountains. Amy, drowsy from her medication, drifts into sleep as the car winds along the dark, empty road.
The drive takes a sudden turn when David swerves to avoid hitting a raccoon. The car skids slightly before regaining control, but not long after, an unsettling mechanical noise begins to grow louder. By sheer luck, they come across an old roadside auto garage. A mechanic inspects the vehicle briefly and assures them the problem has been fixed, though he seems more interested in closing shop than explaining what went wrong. With little choice but to trust him, David and Amy continue their journey.
The reassurance lasts less than two miles when their car dies again.
With no mobile reception anywhere in sight, the couple makes the uneasy walk back to the garage, only to discover it has already shut down for the night. Across the road, a dimly lit, run-down motel flickers under tired neon lights, offering what appears to be their only option.

Inside the reception office, a piercing scream echoes from a room at the back, stopping them in their tracks. Moments later, the motel manager, Mason, calmly switches off the television and greets them as if nothing unusual has happened. He casually explains that the garage will not reopen until morning, leaving David and Amy little choice but to take a room for the night.
As the evening drags on, the motel begins to feel less like shelter and more like a trap. Loud, aggressive knocking reverberates through the hallway, despite Mason insisting they are the only guests staying there.
Then David finds a videotape left inside the room’s VCR.
What initially looks like a cheap horror film soon reveals something far more disturbing. The footage shows previous motel guests being brutally attacked and murdered. And the killings were filmed in their very room.
Hidden cameras confirm their worst fear: someone is watching them right now.
What seemed like a simple overnight stop quickly turns into a terrifying game orchestrated by the smiling motel manager and his accomplices. To survive the night, David and Amy must rely on both courage and quick thinking. By dawn, the quiet roadside motel has become a battleground where only one question matters.
Who will still be alive when morning comes?

MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- Watching the pair driving along the long mountain road brings me back. I used to drive along such route when I first started working and I disliked driving along the road at night. This movie is one of the reasons.
- I was literally gripping my pillow throughout the movie - PTSD?
- The cast is great.
What I Don't Like:
- Is that the end? I want more! I want closure!
Will I Watch It Again: Sure, I don't mind watching it again but not in my priority list.
Overall: 4.4/ 5.0
