Bring Her Back, Horror, Thriller, Rawlins GLAM, Rawlins Lifestyle, Movie Review by Rawlins

After their father's sudden death, 17-year-old Andy and his blind step-sister Piper are sent to live with Laura, an eccentric ex-counselor with a flair for the unsettling. She already fosters Oliver, a mute boy with an eerie presence. Laura’s own daughter, Cathy, drowned in the backyard pool, and Laura’s grief seems to have warped into obsession.

Laura clearly favors Piper and treats Andy with hostility. When Andy tells her and his social worker Wendy that he wants custody of Piper once he turns 18, Laura starts playing mind games to make him doubt himself. Her behavior grows stranger such as stealing a lock of hair from Andy’s father’s corpse and whispering about souls lingering in dead bodies. Andy, haunted by the memory of his abusive father, begins unraveling.

Then there’s Oliver who chews on knives, convulses when taken outside the property line, and eerily mutters, “help me.” Turns out, Oliver is no ordinary child. He’s possessed by a demon named Tari, the result of Laura’s DIY resurrection ritual inspired by an old Russian occult VHS. He wants to bring Cathy back from the dead  and that's why she needs Piper to die the same way Cathy did to make it happen.

As Andy starts connecting the dots, Laura grows more unhinged. She assaults Piper, framing Andy, and sets her plan in motion. Meanwhile, Oliver or rather, Tari,  becomes hungrier, biting Laura and destroying the house.

Andy discovers that Oliver is actually a missing child named Connor Bird. He and Wendy race to save Piper, but Laura gets to them first and she runs them down with her car. Wendy dies, and Laura finishes Andy off by drowning him.

How far would a grieving mother go to bring her child back? Can Piper's death really bring Cathy back?
