It was 1988 and Shadyside High is gearing up for prom night. Like any other prom night, nothing matters more at Shadyside High than who gets crowned prom queen. Everyone assumes it’ll be Tiffany Falconer, the school’s queen bee or one of her loyal mean-girl crew, the infamous Wolfpack: Melissa, Debbie, and Linda.

One of the prom queen hopefuls is Lori Granger, the quiet outcast still haunted by rumors that her mom killed her deadbeat dad. Her only real friend is Megan, a horror makeup whiz who's fiercely loyal—so much so, she'll fake chopping off her own arm just to mess with Lori’s bullies.

This year, Vice Principal Brekenridge hopes the prom will give Shadyside a much-needed fresh start.

The night before the dance, one of the queen candidates, Christy Renault, is murdered by a masked killer. The next night, Lori arrives at prom with her best friend Megan, but a prank involving a fake Tiffany head backfires and strains their friendship. Elsewhere in the school, Linda and her boyfriend Bobby meet a violent end. Lori receives anonymous flowers, just as Tiffany cruelly dredges up her mom’s past. Then more bodies pile up—Judd and Debbie are killed in the basement, while Melissa meets her fate in the locker room.

Lori becomes the unexpected favorite after a dance battle with Tiffany, winning over the crowd. Tiffany’s boyfriend, Tyler, ditches her and makes a move on Lori, only to be murdered minutes later. Megan returns, convinced the killer is Devlin, the principal’s reclusive, ultra-religious son. Lori dismisses her, and they go their separate ways.

But when Megan stumbles upon the hidden bodies, the truth starts to unravel. Lori and Megan narrowly escape another attack, only for the killer to crash prom as Lori is crowned queen. Chaos erupts. Lori fights back, stabbing the attacker. Shocker - the killer is Tiffany’s father. He killed all the teenagers as he knows how much Tiffany and her mother wants the win.

With Dan caught, life will be back to normal. Only thing that changes is Lori is the Prom Queen.

Or will life ever becomes normal again?
