Cerita Lila [Movie Review] | Bored of scrolling through the same old movies on Netflix, I decided to give this one a try in cinema.

Cerita Lila was completely new to me. I had not heard much about it, so I went in with zero expectations.

• Drawing from four episodes about Rahma, Lila and Lili, the story was eventually brought to the big screen. 

Tari is a struggling single mother, who lives with her daughter, Nia. Tari is already at breaking point. Her divorce has left her struggling financially, her lawyer is threatening to withdraw legal assistance and her career as a property agent is hanging by a thread. Her final chance comes in the form of an old house in Bogor that she is asked to sell.

With nowhere else to go after being forced out of their rented home, Tari and Nia end up living in the very house Tari was supposed to sell.

That is when Nia meets Lila.

Lila is the spirit of a little girl who has remained trapped inside an old house for years. But unlike the usual ghost stories, Lila is not simply looking for someone to frighten. She is searching for her twin sister, Lili, who disappeared from her life under tragic circumstances.

What begins as an unusual friendship between two young girls soon becomes a journey into a disturbing mystery. As Nia gets closer to Lila, fragments of the past begin to surface, revealing the story of Lila and Lili, their mother Rahma and the tragedy that shattered their family decades earlier.

Back in the 1980s, Rahma was raising her twin daughters while struggling with an irresponsible man and the overwhelming pressures of life. As her circumstances deteriorate, so does her grip on reality. Blaming Lila and Lili for the hardships and misery she has endured, Rahma makes a devastating decision that will change all their lives forever.

When Rahma's presence begins to threaten Nia and Tari, Nia turns to Sara and Wisnu for help. Together, they attempt to uncover what really happened to the twins and why Lila remains trapped in the house.

How many more lives will the house take before its secret is finally revealed?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• I love the character development. 
• A great cast - everyone delivers beautifully. 

What I Don't Like:

• Not that scary I would say.

Will I Watch It Again: Once is enough.
