Moana [Movie Review] | I loved the original animation, but the many fan theories about Moana, especially whether she truly survived her journey, convinced me to watch the live-action adaptation with a fresh perspective.

On the lush Polynesian island of Motunui, life revolves around the legend of Te Fiti, the goddess who created life across the ocean using a mystical green stone known as her heart. Peace lasts until the legendary demigod Maui steals it in the hope of giving humanity the power to create. Instead, his reckless act unleashes a terrifying darkness across the sea. Attacked by the fiery demon Te Kā, Maui loses both the stolen heart and his magical fish hook, leaving the world to slowly fall apart.
A thousand years later, the ocean chooses an unlikely hero. Moana, the spirited daughter of Motunui’s chief, has always felt an irresistible connection to the sea, even though her father forbids anyone from sailing beyond the island’s protective reef. As crops begin to wither and fish become increasingly scarce, the once-thriving paradise starts to lose its lifeblood. While everyone searches for answers on land, Moana believes the solution lies far beyond the horizon.

Everything changes after her beloved grandmother Tala reveals a long-forgotten secret about their ancestors. Once fearless voyagers who explored the endless ocean, their people abandoned the sea after the ancient curse began. Entrusted with Te Fiti’s lost heart, Moana embarks on a perilous journey across unpredictable waters, determined to find Maui and convince him to restore what he once stole.
Her voyage quickly turns into an unforgettable adventure. Joined by the hopelessly clueless rooster Heihei, Moana faces violent storms, bizarre coconut pirates, mysterious islands and gigantic creatures lurking beneath the waves.
Finding Maui proves to be only the beginning, as convincing the arrogant and self-absorbed demigod to help is far more difficult than she ever imagined. Together, they venture into dangerous places where every challenge pushes them closer to uncovering truths about themselves and the ancient legend that brought them together.
As the darkness spreads and time begins to run out, Moana must decide whether courage alone is enough to save her people and restore balance to the ocean.
Will Maui prove he’s a true demigod or leave Moana disappointed?
