- The second movie titled Kraken and released in 2026, despite being unrelated but both features the same massive, tentacled deep-sea monster.
- Though boasting panoramic shots of Norway’s Sognefjord, the movie filmed its complex underwater scenes inside specialized indoor tank facilities in Lohja, Finland.
- Despite Hollywood cementing the Kraken in Greek mythology through Clash of the Titans, the monster has no ties to ancient Greece. It is entirely a product of Norse folklore and Scandinavian maritime history, not the world of Medusa or the Hydra.

The movie starts with Johanne, a dedicated marine biologist sent by the Institute of Marine Research to investigate a bizarre ecological crisis in Vangsnes. This breathtaking, picturesque village sits right along the crystal blue Sognefjord, the deepest and largest fjord in all of Norway. What should be a routine environmental check rapidly spirals into a terrifying mystery when two local teenagers are found brutally killed near the water.
All signs point directly to the deep fjord, where things are going horribly wrong. Johanne visits a high tech local fish farm run by her former flame, Erik. Years ago, the pair developed a prototype for sonic delousing pods designed to keep parasites off the fish. Johanne moved away before the project concluded, leaving Erik to finalize the tech. Now she is back, only to find their past innovation has been twisted into something dangerous.

The facility owner, a greedy corporate suit named Jostein, is entirely focused on impressing wealthy Japanese investors. In his relentless pursuit of a lucrative deal, he cranks the acoustic technology up to its absolute maximum capacity. While Jostein arrogance blinds him to the danger, Erik joins forces with Johanne to run urgent tests.
The consequences of this corporate greed are immediate and unsettling. Schools of wild salmon begin flopping onto the shoreline in mass strandings. Legions of crabs crawl out of the sea in droves, fleeing their natural habitat. But the worst is yet to come. Deep down in the pitch black abyss of the fjord, the intense sonic frequencies have disturbed a mythical monster as massive as a mountain. Armed with a myriad of colossal tentacles, this legendary Kraken awakens with a furious appetite for destruction.
Can Johanne and Erik silence the machinery before the rising beast turns the fjord into a watery grave?
