Crime 101 [Movie Review]

Crime 101 [Movie Review] | It looked like one of those films that brings together a lineup of great actors in a single story. With that kind of cast, I felt I had no choice but to watch it and see if all the right ingredients would come together to create something memorable.

So, did I make the right choice by giving it a watch?

In Los Angeles, a man named Mike Davis moves through the city like a ghost. He is a jewel thief, but not the loud or reckless kind. Mike operates with discipline. Every job is carefully mapped out in advance. Violence is avoided whenever possible. No fingerprints. No DNA. And once the job is done, he disappears onto U.S. Route 101 as if the city itself is letting him slip away.

One night, Mike intercepts what appears to be a routine diamond delivery. Among the decoys are real stones worth three million dollars. The job runs smoothly until it doesn’t. A stray bullet grazes him during the escape. The wound is minor, but the moment lingers in his mind. For the first time in a while, the risk feels real.

Shaken, Mike calls off his next planned robbery in Santa Barbara. His fence, Money, is not pleased with the delay. Instead of waiting, Money brings in a younger thief named Ormon. Hot-headed and unpredictable, Ormon is exactly the type of criminal Mike has spent his career avoiding.

Meanwhile, LAPD detective Lou Lubesnick begins noticing a pattern. A string of sophisticated robberies. Minimal violence. Almost no evidence. Lou suspects the same person is responsible, but his theory receives little attention at the department.

Preparing for his next move, Mike hires a hacker named Devon to gather information on Sharon, a high-end insurance broker. Sharon is sharp, capable and long undervalued at her firm. When a colleague closes a lucrative deal she had been pursuing, the disappointment pushes her closer to the edge.

While Mike quietly prepares his next heist, Ormon carries out the Santa Barbara robbery with brutal force, confirming Mike’s worst instincts about him. Mike cuts ties with Money immediately, but the damage is already done. Ormon is now hunting him.

At the same time, something unexpected enters Mike’s carefully controlled life. A minor car accident introduces him to Maya. What begins as an awkward encounter slowly turns into something deeper. For the first time in years, Mike begins to imagine a life that does not revolve around escape routes.

But the walls are closing in. Lou edges closer to the truth. Sharon is pulled deeper into Mike’s world. And Ormon is not far behind.

Sooner or later, Mike will have to decide.

Should he hold on to the life he knows or risk everything for a different one?
