Godaan Setan Yang Terkutuk [Movie Review] | My work schedule was so hectic for the past few weeks that I didn't have time to even watch a movie on Netflix.
When there's a breather in my schedule, I immediately go online and watch this one. Let's pray that it is good.

- Donny Alamsyah, action star of Wiro Sableng, trained with real exorcists for months to nail the ruqyah rituals.
- Fun fact: He improvised the chilling line, “To destroy a family, first break the mother,” straight from Islamic texts during rehearsal—a raw moment kept in the final cut for its haunting punch.
- This marks the first joint project between three powerhouse production houses—Maxima Pictures (known for KKN di Desa Penari), Sinergi Pictures (fresh off Lampir in 2024), and VLP Indonesia—plus Ben Film.
- In just 88 minutes, this is one of Indonesia’s tightest horrors. Sharp-eyed fans catch eerie folklore nods, like a pocong’s fleeting shadow, linking to director Fahmy J. Saad’s past works. The opening Arabic prayer, recorded live in one take, keeps its raw spiritual power untouched by edits.
- The movie draws from real-life ruqyah exorcisms, with director consulting actual ustaz to weave authentic, chilling accounts of family-targeted hauntings into the film. The possessed wife's eerie outbursts feel unnervingly lifelike, rooted in documented cases of spiritual backlash.

Ustaz Ahmad, a seasoned ruqyah expert, preaches that evil begins by eroding a mother’s resilience, exploiting her exhaustion, and eroding her gratitude. “To break a family, first break the mother,” he warns, setting the stage for a harrowing tale where darkness preys on faith’s fragile foundations.
For years, Ustaz Ahmad has exorcised malevolent spirits, saving countless souls. He never accepts gifts from the people he helped - citing that it was God's willing that allows him to saved people.
At home, his wife is not that happy as their family is trying hard to make ends meet, especially with two young girls growing up and their needs.
In one ruqyah incident, the possessed victim vowed to end his Ustaz Ahmad's family. Thinking nothing about it, yet again he declined the monetary gift from the victim's father, before going home to his disgruntled wife, urging him to take the gift the next time people offers him so.

Nayla, his eldest, accidentally causing a classmate's phone to fall and broke. She is asked to pay compensation or face being reported to the authorities. Yasmin, Nayla's younger sister, also came up to their parents, giving them a reminder letter to pay for tuition fees or she will not be allowed to sit for the upcoming exam.
Still, Ahmad advised his family that with patience, Allah swt will assist them in their hard times. He then went to the mosque with his daughters to perform prayers and give Quran class there.
Alone at home, the last possessed victim appeared at Ahmad's home and passed some cash to his wife's hands.
Everything changed after the exchange. There are delicious food at the table. His wife cited that her business is doing well. She even managed to replaced the broken phone and paid for the tuition fees.
But not all is great. A vengeful spirit infiltrates his home, tormenting his wife and children with sinister whispers and unexplainable behavior.
When darkness invades your home, can faith alone prevail?

MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- A marvellous performance by the cast. Their lack of cash situation hits hard- kinda similar to my childhood.
- I think there will be a second one, as the satan promises that it still needs Yasmin.
What I Don't Like:
- Too short - just 88 minutes.
Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I will.
Overall: 4.3/ 5.0
