Death of A Unicorn [Movie Review] | The title itself gets me interested and excited to watch it.

And yes, I know it will involves magic. And from all the movies I've watched, I know that unicorn is not a very loving magical animal.

• This is Alex Scharfman's directorial debut.
• Writer-director Alex Scharfman drew inspiration from ancient unicorn myths and the real 16th-century unicorn tapestries at The Met Cloisters in New York. “I saw them on school trips as a kid,” he said. “They stuck with me.” The tapestries became a key influence—Jenna Ortega even called them a “cheat sheet” for the film.
• The unicorns mimic the sounds and hunting style of Jurassic Park's velociraptors, with several scenes echoing the film almost shot-for-shot.

Elliot and his teenage daughter, Ridley, set out for a weekend getaway at the country estate of Elliot’s boss, Odell Leopold. The visit is meant to be routine, as an opportunity to maintain good standing with the powerful and enigmatic Odell and his family. 

But everything changes on the drive there, when Elliot strikes a small unicorn with his car. While the creature is injured but alive while bleeding blue blood, Ridley touches its horn and is overcome by strange, cosmic visions. Alarmed, Elliot bludgeons the unicorn to death and hides it in the trunk.

Upon arrival at the Leopold estate, the unicorn’s presence begins to affect the Kintners. Ridley’s skin clears, Elliot’s eyesight sharpens, and his allergies vanish. Soon after, Odell’s assistant, Shaw, discovers the supposedly dead creature in the trunk is still alive and kicking, and she kills it. 

The Leopolds, now aware of its healing properties, enlist a team of scientists to extract more from the unicorn. When Odell is cured of terminal cancer after ingesting a horn-based concoction, the true scale of his intentions is revealed: he plans to exploit the unicorn’s powers for profit.

Ridley, disturbed by the parallels to ancient myths like The Unicorn Tapestries that her beloved mother had shared with her before, warns them not to desecrate the creature. But her pleas go unheard. Matters escalate when two larger unicorns, the parents of the dead foal, attack the estate and the residents. The estate is thrown into chaos as the angry parents retaliate against those who harmed their offspring.

As greed and desperation take hold, Shepard attempts to harvest the remaining horn. Ridley tries to intervene while Elliot joins a hunting party that ends in bloodshed. The unicorns either impaled their victims using their horns or bit and shred them to bit using their sharp teeth.

Who'll survive the attack and live to tell the unbelievable magical story of the mythical beings?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Yeay to the myhtical and magical beings.  
• A great cast.

What I Don't Like:

• The CGI is not the best. 

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I will.   

Overall: 4.4/ 5.0
