Child's Play [Movie Review]

I remembered watching Child's Play in the late 80's with my uncle (on VHR and without my mum's knowing) and hated seeing life-sized dolls ever since - traumatised by the movie hahaha.

I watched almost all Chucky movies afterwards, even when it became more ridiculous and tacky - but I still feel scared of the doll despite being a grown up now. So, when I heard that the remake is coming up, I am intrigued to see the latest reboot of the horror monstrous doll.

An employee of 'Buddi' assembly factory in Vietnam killed himself after tampering with the safety features of the doll, in retaliation of a rude supervisor. 
In Chicago, Karen and her hearing-impaired son, Andy are just settling into their new department. Seeing that her son is not fitting well with the surroundings, Karen blackmails one of her colleagues to procure a defective Buddi doll and gives Andy the doll as an early birthday gift.

Andy tries to name the doll but the doll just calls himself as Chucky. Despite it being defective, Buddi helps Andy befriend Falyn and Pugg. The kids love Buddi for its ability to curse whereas the other Buddi dolls are not. The trio loves Buddi's company and keeps him with them all the time - playing time, watching horror movies together and playing pranks too. Chucky computes that the kids love the thriller movie so he tries to emulate the act of killing to please the kids. When Andy becomes mad at him when Chucky tries to stab Pugg, it confuses him.

Over time, Chucky becomes very protective of Andy. Chucky tries to kill the cat when the cat scratches Andy. One day, Andy finds the cat dead on the kitchen floor and Chucky admits to killing the cat, so it will never hurt Andy anymore. Shane, Karen's boyfriend don't like Andy and when he gets spooked by Chucky, Shane confronts Andy that leaves Andy in tears. Andy wishes for Shane to disappear from their lives and Chucky hears this. 

Chucky follows Shane home only to find that Shane is actually married and has a family. When Shane was outside taking down the Christmas lights, Chucky terrorizes Shane and ends up killing Shane. Chucky brings home a 'souvenir' for Andy.
This is where the terror begins for Andy, his mom and his friends. 
Will Andy be able to keep his 'best friend' away from him?

MY REVIEW Plot: 2.0/ 5.0 Where should I start? I just don't like this remake/ reboot. Why should you remake an already good movie and then make it worse? The plot is predictable like any other horror movie. Only this one is not a horror movie, it is a thriller. No ghost whatsoever, Chucky is just a malfunctioned AI. It could have been better, much better with a better script and refined plot.
Cast: 3.0/ 5.0 The actors were ok. Not great. And somehow I think it was on the brink of being a parody to the original Child's Play. 
Will I watch it again: No. I will watch the original ones, but not this one. Ever. Again. The pictures are taken from IMDb and other sources on the Internet. Thank you.
