Evil Dead Burn [Movie Review] | Never one to miss a horror movie, especially one from a franchise I've faithfully followed, I went into this eager to see if the latest instalment could outdo its predecessor.
So far, the Evil Dead series has rarely missed. The question is, will this one finally break that streak?

- The darkest Evil Dead yet. Unlike Sam Raimi's films, Burn leans into grief, trauma and domestic abuse, making it the franchise's most emotionally intense entry.
- The opening scene continues directly from Evil Dead Rise (2023), with Jessica returning as the first direct narrative link between the standalone Evil Dead films.
- Director Sébastien Vaniček instructed the actors to "behave like animals," giving each Deadite a distinct personality.

The story begins at a quiet lakeside retreat where Joseph Price is investigating the mysterious research left behind by his late grandfather, Benjamin. Hidden among dusty journals is the infamous Necronomicon, along with the legendary Kandarian Dagger, an ancient weapon believed to be capable of stopping the terrifying Deadites. Unaware of the consequences, Joseph accidentally recites an incantation from the cursed book, awakening the evil. Moments later, the Deadite Jessica rises from the bottom of the lake and brutally slaughters two fishermen by the lake before setting her sights on her next victim.
Joseph's brother, Will, argues with his wife Alice and storms off drunk, only to crash into Jessica. As he burns inside the wreckage, Jessica recites another passage from the Necronomicon, passing the Deadite curse onto him.
Days later, Joseph's family reunites to mourn the loss of Will. Rather than bringing them closer, the gathering exposes years of resentment and unresolved tension, with Alice continuing to shoulder the blame for Will's death. The nightmare truly begins when Edgar visits Will's coffin after the service. The possessed corpse suddenly bursts free, killing the crematorium worker before infecting Edgar.

Back at the lakehouse, Edgar slowly succumbs to the evil, turning a family dinner into a nightmare. As chaos erupts, Joseph and Thya attempt to get help, while Alice uncovers Benjamin's research and comes face to face with a horrifying new threat. Along the way, Edgar finally turns into Deadite and attacks Thya. Johnny escapes.
Joseph returns to find Thya has also become a Deadite. Although the family locks her in the basement, she escapes and unleashes a relentless attack while searching for the Kandarian Dagger. As one family member after another falls to the Deadite curse, Alice is forced to confront both the horrifying creatures around her and the painful memories of her abusive marriage. Armed with a rotary saw and driven by sheer determination, she becomes the family's last hope in a desperate battle where survival comes at a devastating cost.
Can Alice survives the night and defeats the whole family of Deadites?
