Prey for the Devil [Movie Review] | You know by now that I am a horror-movie lover, apart from other genres too. So, when I saw that this one is playing in cinemas, of course I have to bring (read: force) my screamer friends to join me in cinema.

The movie starts with a little girl praying inside her room while her mother is banging hard on her door, trying to come in. Apparently, her mother is possessed and is trying to get into her room to hurt her.

Years later, the girl has grown and is now a nun, Sister Ann. She shares her history with the psychologist. By now, the Catholic church reopens exorcism school all over the world due to the rise of the demonic possessions. 

Nuns are only to care for the possessed and not allow to perform exorcisms, only priests are allowed. Intrigued by possession based on her own experience, Ann always sneaked into the exorcism class by Father Quinn to learn about exorcisms. Father Quinn allows her to sit in as he recognizes her gifts.  

During one of the exorcism trainings with Natalie, a young girl that is believed to be possessed by an evil demon, while Father Raymond and Father Dante freeze in front of Natalie during the possession, Ann comes forward and manages to calm and save Natalia from the possession. 

From that incident, Ann realizes that the same demon that has possessed her mother is now possessing Natalie, trying to reach her via Natalie. This knowledge makes Ann wants to know more about the demon and exorcism.

After an incident involving an elderly, where she was harassed by the possessed patient after being trapped in the room, Ann becomes obsessed in learning more about demons and exorcisms.

Dante believes in her gifts and invites her to assist him in assisting his sister, who was raped and has lost the baby, but now is possessed by demon. The duo managed to rid of the demon from the sister.

The next day, they learnt that the sister has killed herself. In response of the tragedy, Ann decides to return to her old convent, away from the school and her obsession in exorcisms.

Not soon after, Dante visits her at the convent with a news that was shocking to her. Natalie is actually her daughter that she gave up for adoption year ago, when she was pregnant as a teenager. 

Now that she knows why the demon is seeking her through Natalie, can she win the fight against her her old demon?

 

MY REVIEW

Plot: 3.3/ 5.0 In my mind, I was expecting a totally different plot with a twist or two in there. But the movie was very straight forward, with jump scares here and there. 

Yes, I was expecting more and a bit let down.

Cast: 3.6/ 5.0 The cast delivered, just the right amount. But it could be better if the plot is developed better.

Will I Watch It Again: No, thank you.
