Talbis Iblis [Movie Review]

Talbis Iblis [Movie Review] | When you hear Kabir Bhatia, you'll immediately looking forward to his creations - at least that's how I feel towards Kabir Bhatia's creations, so far.

So, will Talbis Iblis create the same phenomenon as his previous creations?

As mentioned in my earlier post, Talbis Iblis is the second Malaysian film to be shortlisted and had its world premiere at the 24th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy in April. And it was also selected for the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival 2022 and the 21st Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival 2022.

Hajar, along with her husband, Arshad drives to an unknown place to deliver her baby. It is very obvious that Arshad doesn't really want anything to do with the unborn baby, up to a point that he questions whether the baby is his.

The couple arrives at a house where Mak Ju greets them. Nasir, Mak Ju's assistant helps the couple to settle into their room.

Mak Ju helps Hajar to settle down and also to calm her nerves as she is almost due. Mak Ju also helps to calms Hajar when Arshad was abusing her verbally. She tells Hajar to stand up for her rights.

When Hajar finds out that her own mother has been paying Arshad to marry her and to stay with her, she has had it. She tells Arshad to leave her alone and get out of her life. Those words were music to Arshad's ears and he immediately drives out from the Mak Ju's place.

When Nasir was late to open the gate, Arshad snapped and scolded Nasir. The duo goes to a shed nearby to look for the key, where Mak Ju suddenly appears and kills Arshad. And the duo acts like nothing happen and Arshad has actually left the compound.

Meanwhile, Mak Ju tends to Hajar in a traditional way, melenggang perut and all. Feeling helpless that Arshad leaves her and thankful that Mak Ju is willing to help her, Hajar just obeys whatever Mak Ju tells her to do.

She is thankful that Mak Ju is there for her and her baby when her own mother is not. And she starts loving the baby inside her.

That is until her dead brother comes into her dream and tells her to get out from the house and she starts seeing dark and ghostly figures. Hajar starts to sense something amiss about Mak Ju and Nasir.

Is Mak Ju really sincere in taking care of Hajar or is  there something that she wants from Hajar?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.5/ 5.0 I thought I knew the plot not midway into the movie, but the best twist was at the end of the movie.

The cinematography is really great, and the script needs a lil' umph but all in all, a good movie to watch. You'll learn a few information about the old ways of midwifery from the movie - things that we don't hear that often nowadays.

Cast: 4.6/ 5.0 A good cast I would say. Nasha was great as Mak Ju - cunningly sweet and caring. Nasir is a guy that will draw your sympathy and you'll want to kill Arshad in an instant.

Hajar was great as a helpless clueless pregnant caught in a scandal.

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again with my screamer friends.

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.

  1. I terkejut tengok plot twist dia tapi tertanya-tanya apa yang orang tu dapat bila setia dengan makhluk tu. I tahu tak semua benda boleh dibeli dengan duit tapi mesti ada something kan?
