Ruth is released from prison after serving twenty years for murdering a sheriff. The incident happened when the sheriff came to evict her and her five-year-old sister, Katie. She has been raising Katie alone since their parents died.

Vince, her Parole Officer, brings her to a home for the convicts and assists her to find a job. She secured a job at fish-packaging factory, where another co-worker shows interest in knowing her. Not soon after, she secures another job as a carpenter, her real interest.

From there, she starts looking for her sister, Katie who was put in the system and has not respond to any of her mails.

Katie, who is now being raised by her foster family, has no recollection of her past life but she has glimpses of the memories. Her parents who know about the tragic past, agreed to hide her past and in doing so, hides the letter from Ruth.

Meanwhile, the sons of the murdered sheriff, still hold grudges and were there when Ruth walked out of the prison. Keith, the elder son, has been tracking Ruth and intend to avenge his father's death. Steve, the younger brother, tells his brother to move on and forget about avenging their father's death.

One day, Ruth decides to visit her home, which is now owned by John and Liz Ingram. There, John offers to assist Ruth with any of her legal issues without knowing that Ruth killed someone before and is looking for her sister. When he finally knows the truth, he still agrees to take her case.

Will Ruth finally be united with Katie? And will Keith still want to hold Ruth for their father's death and make her pay for it?
