Drishyam [Movie Review] | I was suckered into watching this particular movie by friends - I have been tagged numerous times on IGS to watch the movie.

So here I go!

• Ajay agreed to do the film because his home production, Shivaay got delayed and completed the movie within 12 weeks. 
• The film is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam-language film of the same name. The original holds the box office for the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever. 
• The shoot was from March till May and then it was decided the film will release in July. That was FAST!

The movie starts with a flashback of Vijay watching movies in his office. He stays until early morning before returns to his family to have breakfast with them. His daughters, Anju, a teenager and Anu are very close to him and his wife, Nandini and asking him to bring them to the city soon. He agrees later after much persuasion from his wife. 

During the outing, Anju persuades Vijay to allow him to join a nature camp. During the camp, Sam, the son of the Inspector General of Goa Police, Meera, keeps on recording her on his phone. 

It was not until much later Anju realises that Sam went too far with the recording. After the camp, Sam tracks her down and shows her a recording of her taking a shower during the camp. Sam blackmails Anju that he will share the video with the world unless she gives him something that he wants sexually later that night at Anju's house. 

That night, Sam comes to see Anju and realises that she told Nandini about the video. He threatens to share the video online and a fight ensues. Sam agrees to delete the video if Nandini sleeps with him instead. Enraged, Anju takes a swing at Sam with a lead pipe, aiming for the phone but instead hits Sam's head. When they realise that Sam is dead, both quickly buries Sam in a compost pit in their backyard. Later they realised that Anu witnessed the whole burial.

When Vijay returns that morning, he quickly devises a way to save his family, all thanks to long hours of watching movies in his office. He gets rid of Sam's phone and takes the sim card, without touching it. He drives away in Sam's car, which is seen by corrupt police, Sub-Inspector Gaitonde. Gaitonde always has a grudge against Vijay since Vijay calls him out on his corrupt ways. 

The very next day, Vijay starts concocting and living out the alibi for the whole family. 

Meanwhile, Meera realises that his son is missing and starts an investigation. Meera is determined to find his only son and her investigation all points towards Vijay and his family - but it seems that she couldn't hold onto a piece of concrete evidence.

Will the alibi holds or will the ugly truth be exposed?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 5.0/ 5.0 I have not watched the original version but if it is anything as good as this one, OMG! How the father plans everything - including when it goes wrong - it was superb. The key is to share with your potential witnesses the thing you want them to say.   

Cast: 5.0/ 5.0 It was great! Everyone - including Gaitonde that I am still hating!

Will I watch it again: Yes, I think I will try to watch the original version.
