Ghost in the Cell [Movie Review] | Ever since I saw the trailer featuring a dancing inmate, I’ve been looking forward to watching this movie.

What kind of horror story is it going to be? And more importantly, will I actually enjoy it?

Dimas was looking forward to getting praises for his expose on illegal deforestation in Kalimantan. But his editor was not having it. The editor rejects the article and causes a massive confrontation. Shortly after, the editor is found brutally murdered and mutilated in his office with Dima being the first to find him, hanging from a ceiling fan with his guts literally falling out. Dima is framed for the death or murder and sentenced to spend his arraignment at the Labuhan Angsana Maximum Security Prison, a prison where corrupt guards, violent gangs and ruthless inmates are already enough to make survival a daily challenge. 

As soon as Dimas enters the prison, inmates begin dying in horrifying and mysterious ways. Their bodies are not simply killed. They are brutally mutilated and left behind like disturbing works of art. 

Soon, Anggoro, a hot headed prisoner with a strong sense of justice and several others discover that something supernatural may be hunting them. Six, a prisoner who has the strange ability to see people’s auras, notices something terrifying. The people who are consumed by anger, hatred, despair or other intense negative emotions seem to become the ghost’s next targets.

The prisoners begin trying everything they can think of. Prayer, kindness, helping one another, even dancing! 

But Dimas is carrying a much bigger secret. Before his imprisonment, he was investigating mysterious deaths connected to an illegal mining operation deep inside a protected forest in Borneo. His investigation had brought him dangerously close to powerful people and now the supernatural horror seems to have followed him into prison.

As Anggoro and the others dig deeper, they realise the ghost may not be killing randomly. Someone inside the prison could be connected to everything that happened in the forest.

Who will be its final victim? And what is the real reason behind the killings?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• The beautiful combination of horror, action, thriller and comedy.
• Beautiful cast too.

What I Don't Like:

• You did not get to see the ghost at all.

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again.
