Spider-Man: Brand New Day [Movie Review] | Just got back from my overseas trip and, because apparently I don’t believe in resting, I went straight to the cinema to catch this one on D-BOX. 

I actually wanted to go all out with the 4D experience, but the showtime was way too late. After barely getting any proper sleep on the plane, I figured my body was already struggling enough. So, D-BOX it was!

Was it worth going straight from the airport to the cinema? Let’s just say I had my reasons.

• The first trailer made a massive splash, racking up 719 million views within 24 hours, nearly doubling the previous record of 365 million held by Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
• Marvel kept Sadie Sink’s role under wraps for months, fueling endless fan theories before finally revealing her as Jean Grey. 
• The Punisher actually made his comic book debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 back in 1974. So while Frank Castle may seem like a surprising addition to a Spider-Man movie, he has actually been part of Spider-Man’s comic book history for decades.

Following Doctor Strange’s spell, the world has forgotten Peter Parker ever existed. Four years later, Spider-Man is still out there protecting New York, but this time, he is completely alone. No MJ. No Ned. No one who remembers the person behind the mask.

Peter finds himself caught in a dangerous situation involving Frank Castle, a mysterious telepath and a stolen substance known as V Max. What begins as another chaotic day in New York quickly turns into something far more personal when Peter discovers that the attacks on the Department of Damage Control are connected to someone who can jump from one mind to another.

And that someone knows exactly how to get under Peter’s skin.

Things become even more complicated when Peter runs into MJ and Ned. They have no idea who he is and watching the two people closest to him live their lives without remembering him hits harder than any supervillain ever could. 

But Peter has little time to dwell on what he has lost. Strange changes begin happening to his body. His senses become sharper, his powers evolve and even his webbing starts behaving differently. Desperate to understand what is happening, Peter turns to Bruce Banner for answers and begins working on a way to control his new abilities.

Then he discovers the identity of the mysterious telepath.

Jean Grey.

As Jean’s past slowly comes to light, Peter begins to realise that there is far more to the situation than meets the eye. With old memories, hidden motives and unexpected alliances coming into play, Peter is pushed further than ever before.

This time, he understands one thing clearly: not everything is as it seems.

But will Peter finally find a way to reclaim the life he lost or will being Spider-Man demand an even greater sacrifice?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Peter Parker is adulting in this one - just like the rest of us.  
• I particularly love the ninjas' action - reminded me of the good old ninja series and movies I watched growing up.
• Jean Grey? X-Men? YES!

What I Don't Like:

• At times I got confused about the timeline - but whatever.

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again.
