Avatar: Fire and Ash [Movie Review]

Avatar: Fire and Ash [Movie Review] | Of course I had to watch this sequel. I was first invited by my dear friends to experience it in 4DX, but unfortunately couldn’t join them.

I eventually went on my own, also choosing 4DX because I wanted the full experience. Was it worth watching in that format?

And more importantly, was the movie actually good?

  • In the scene where Quaritch gives Spider his dog tags, the burger is most probably made from leftover Tulkun meat.
  • Many underwater scenes used minimal CGI, with cast members holding their breath for over five minutes. Cameron developed water-based motion capture years earlier, shaping the story around it.

Having found refuge among the Metkayina, Jake Sully and his loved ones are still learning how to breathe and live again after Neteyam’s death. For Neytiri, the wound cuts deeper, hardening into a quiet, burning hatred toward humans.

Meanwhile, Lo’ak is weighed down by guilt, believing his parents blame him for his brother’s death. Their tulkun friend, Payakan, is shunned and forced to leave their waters, as both the Na’vi and tulkun elders believe he is influencing the younger generation to abandon their traditional, peaceful ways.

Fearing Spider’s presence will endanger the clan, Jake decides the boy must leave. The children protest and a compromise is made. The family goes together, a bid farewell to the dear Spider. Together, they ride the merchant ships together, with Jake and Neytiri flying around, protecting the convoy from any harm.

Well on their way, the convoy is ambushed by the Mangkwan, a brutal Na’vi clan that has turned its back on Eywa. Led by their formidable tsahik, Varang, they burn the ships, slaughter survivors and scatter the Sully family across land and sea. Enemies are forced into uneasy alliances as Jake crosses paths with Colonel Miles Quaritch, all of them driven by one goal: finding the children.

In the chaos, Spider nearly dies when his oxygen fails, until Kiri connects him to Pandora itself. What happens next changes everything. Infused by the planet’s living network, Spider becomes something new, able to breathe Pandora’s air and bond like the Na’vi.

Determined to complete his mission, Quaritch makes his move. He arms the Mangkwan, offering guns and fire in exchange for loyalty, and forges both an alliance and a dangerous intimacy with Varang. Meanwhile, Spider’s transformation alarms the human scientists. Inside him lies a secret that could allow humanity to permanently conquer Pandora. This could mean both well and deadly to Pandora.

Quaritch captures Spider and demands Jake’s surrender, forcing him to choose between his people and his son. Jake gives himself up. Bridgehead City becomes a stage for executions, experiments and rebellion. Spider becomes a lab-rat for the scientists, eager to find ways to decode the secret inside him. Meanwhile, Jake is imprisoned, awaiting his death trial.

Not willing to let the soldiers take matters to their own hands, Neytiri strikes from the shadows, chaos erupts and Spider turns the RDA’s power against them, standing as a shield between Jake and death.

They managed to return to Metkayina and now has to start assembling forces, to face the upcoming war.

The final battle unfolds on a grand, devastating scale. Tulkun gather, Na’vi clans unite and ancient predators rise once more.

Which clan will pay the price and which will emerge victorious?
