Apex [Movie Review] | Ever since the trailer dropped, I have been counting down the days for its Netflix debut.
It is Charlize Theron after all, so excellence is practically a given. But could this be the one that finally misses the mark?

- Under the guidance of professional climber Beth Rodden, Charlize trained so intensively that she performed nearly all her own climbing choreography, rarely relying on a stunt double.

It begins with a climb that feels far too perfect to fail. High above the jagged spine of the Troll Wall in Norway, Sasha and Tommy move as if they belong to the mountain, chasing that sharp rush found only where the air thins and the ground vanishes. Then the sky turns. A storm rolls in without warning and in the chaos of rope and rock, one decision fractures everything. In a single, irreversible moment, Sasha is forced to choose between holding on and letting go. She chooses survival and Tommy is gone.
Months later, Sasha trades icy cliffs for the dense, humid wilderness of Wandarra National Park in Australia. At a lonely gas station, two predatory hunters begin to harass her until a stranger named Ben steps in to diffuse the tension. He points her toward the Grand Isle Narrows, a place where the water runs fast, exactly the way Sasha likes it.
The journey starts simply enough. She kayaks through restless waters and camps beside the river, but morning reveals a chilling reality: her bag and gear have vanished. While searching for her belongings, she stumbles upon Ben. The savior from the gas station has been replaced by a voyeur. He knows about Norway. He knows about Tommy. And he is the one who took her bag.

With the cold detachment of a man who has done this many times before, Ben produces a crossbow and a stereo. He gives her a head start of exactly one song. When the music stops, the hunt begins.
What follows is not just a fight for survival. The wilderness closes in, turning every river bend and shadow into a threat. Sasha is forced to confront the man stalking her and the version of herself still trapped on that mountain, suspended in the moment she could not undo.
Running for her life, Sasha is lured by the recorded voices of a family, a twisted audio trap set by Ben. Under a hail of bolts, she plunges into the river, only to be snapped up by a bear trap while scavenging for a getaway canoe. Ben hauls her to a macabre cavern filled with the remains of his collection, explaining his ritualistic belief that cannibalism grants his victims eternal life within him. In a visceral burst of defiance, Sasha bites off Ben’s ear and breaks her shackles, leading to a desperate river chase that leaves her pursuer broken and unconscious at the base of a waterfall.
When the climb demands one final choice, will Sasha hold the line or will she find that some weights are simply too heavy to carry?

MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- She loves all those extreme sports - the ones missing are skydiving and wrestling crocodiles.
- I would say powerful performances by the cast - both Charlize and and Taron.
What I Don't Like:
- The end feels a bit rushed as I would love to see more clashings between the two.
Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again.
Overall: 4.6/ 5.0
