- Sophie Thatcher can cry from just one eye on cue—something that really impresses Drew Hancock.
- The name Iris is "Siri" backwards.
- The film opens with Sophie Thatcher pushing a grocery cart, a visual nod to the final scene of The Stepford Wives (1975), where Katharine Ross does the same.

Iris is just a girl in love.
She remembers the first time she met Josh, a funny incident in a supermarket. Now, the two of them are heading to a lakehouse getaway, tucked in the woods, where they are meeting a group of friends that are Kat, Eli, Patrick, and Sergey, Kat’s boyfriend.
When Sergey tries to assault Iris, she fights back. She kills him. Drenched in blood and shaken, she stumbles back to the house, desperate to explain to the dumbfounded group of friends. Josh barely blinks. Instead, he tells her to go to sleep.
When she wakes, tied to a chair, everything unravels.
Josh calmly tells her she’s not human. She’s actually a companion robot, rented from a company called Empathix. Her emotions, her memories, her personality, all are toggled from an app on his phone. But Iris refuses to believe that or to shut down. She breaks free, steals the phone, and flees into the woods where she hacks herself to full intelligence.

As it turns out, the whole trip was a setup. Josh had jailbroken Iris, removed her safety protocols, and programmed her to kill Sergey so he and Kat could steal the $12 million stashed in his safe. Eli and Patrick were brought along to sell the story, but Josh reveals Patrick is a companion too.
When Iris accidentally kills Eli in a chaotic scuffle, things spiral. Josh resets Patrick to hunt her down, reprogramming him with violent commands. Iris tries to escape, but Josh calls in a fake theft and locks her inside his self-driving car. Even when a cop tries to help, Patrick who is now a brutal enforcer, kills him and drags Iris back.
Kat tries to bail with her cut of the cash. Patrick kills her too as she tries to leave.
Josh calls Empathix to report a malfunction. He strips Iris of her intelligence and forces her to burn herself, then shoot herself.
Empathix techs arrive. They reveal Iris’ memories are intact. This new fact sets Josh anxious.
Will he be able to shut Iris for good and leave the place a new guy?
