Imaginary [Movie Review]

Imaginary [Movie Review] | It has been quite some time since I went to watch a movie in the cinema (well, a month is a long time in my realm, hahaha).

So, when I had the chance and it is a horror movie, of course I had to watch it.

Jessica always has nightmares and it revolves around a spider monster chasing after her and her father. She turns her nightmares into a famous and best-selling children's book. She is married to Max, who Max has two daughters from his first marriage, younger daughter Alice and teenager, Taylor. Alive likes Jessica but Taylor is a different story.

The family moves to Jessica's family home - the happy place for Jessica, as remembers it. Her father is in the hospital as he is not well. Jessica leaves home when she was 5 years old and lives with her grandmother as her father was not well.

Alice discovers an old teddy bear in the basement and immediately names it Chauncey. She forms a special bond with the teddy and no longer wants Jessica's company.

A neighbour greets Jessica. Turns out the old lady is Gloria, Jessica's babysitter when she was a child, but Jessica can't seem to remember her or her childhood at the house.

Alice is now obsessed with Chauncey and goes everywhere with it. One day, Taylor invites Liam, a neighbour's kid to their home. When he attempts to find a towel, Chauncey toys with him before briefly turns into a monster.

In one incident, Alice almost slams her hand onto a nail - a part of a scavenger game invented by Chauncey - Alice says.

When Alice disappears after a session with a child psychologist, Jessica realises that she and Alice are the only ones who can see Chauncey. And Alice was also telling stories about a place called 'Never Ever' where Chauncey promises to take her after she completes her scavenger hunt, before her disappearance.

Then Gloria tells Jessica that Chauncey is actually the name of her childhood imaginary friend. And she believes that Alice is also having the same friend as Jessica's. Gloria believes that Chauncey is a spirit that is attracted to young kids and when Jessica abruptly left home when she was 5, the spirit became sinister. Now that she is back with kids, Gloria believes that Chauncey is trying to exact revenge.

Will Chauncey have its revenge? Or can Jessica saves her family?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 3.5/ 5.0 There are twists here and there making the movie a bit fresh. The movie was a bit slow from the take-off, slowly builds up as it progress.

The script was a bit off.

Cast: 4.0/ 5.0 Could have been better with different cast.

Will I Watch It Again: I probably will, but not in the must watch again.

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
