Evil Dead Rise [Movie Review] | Yes! Another Evil Dead movie. I have always been a fan of the Evil Dead movie, since there was VHS and my uncle brought home the tape for us to watch. I remembered my mum prohibited my brother and I to watch it, but we watched it when my mum went to work and remembered both of us were scared shitless when night falls. 

What will this one do to me?

The movie starts with Jessica being possessed and terrorized her friends by the lakeside. And then the movie show a throwback to a day earlier. 

Beth, who is pregnant, returns to visit Ellie, her sister who is a single mother with three kids - Danny, Bridget and Kassie. Ellie tells the kids to get pizza so that she and Beth could share life stories. 

When the kids return, an earthquake happen, leaving a hole in the parking lot area. Danny goes in to investigate what seems to be a huge vault, hoping to find some treasure that he could sell. Instead, he find religious artifacts, a few marked old records and a strange book. He brings all to his room and starts playing the records. It tells a journey of a priest, trying to uncover the secrets of the same weird looking book, complete with him reading the incantations within the book. The readings unleash a demonic entity that possesses Ellie who is in the elevator. She returns to her flat where she vomits in front of Beth and her kids. Then she collapses breathless, and leaves her family assumes that she is dead. 

But as the family and neighbours gather to say their prayers, Ellie awakens and starts attacking them.

Beth and the kids manage to get Ellie out of the house during the fight, locking her out of the house. There, Ellie attacks and kills all the neighbours, and then starts begging Kassie to let her in. As Kassie opens the door, Ellie attacks Kassie. Danny saves Kassie and brings her into their bedroom. 

Meanwhile, Bridget is possessed. Beth find her chewing glass in the kitchen before she attacks Beth. When Beth comes after Danny and Kassie, Kassie accidentally impales Bridget with her toy. Danny wraps and ties Bridget's body to the bed, in hope that Bridget will stay dead. 

Danny tells Beth about the book and the incantation. Beth listens to the recordings to look for answers to stop the attacks. Bridget awakens and attacks Danny and Kassie. Kassie hides under the sofa while Danny is attacked and killed by Bridget. The Bridget attacks Beth but with Kassie's help, managed to subdue the attack and both runs away from the house and heads to the parking basement. 

At the basement, while the duo struggles to open the basement door and run from the building, Ellie comes down. She has now Bridget and Danny's body entwined with hers and her strength has now tripled. 

Will Kassie and Beth survive 'their family'?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.7/ 5.0 Yes it has the same MO as the previous movies. Of course. Still has the same effect on me.

Not so much of scare-jumps but the killing parts and gory parts are aplenty. Be mindful when you bring young ones ok. 

Cast: 4.8/ 5.0 Even Kassie is marvellous. Everyone was great in committing to their parts. 

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, and let's watch the whole series while we are at it.
