Prey [Movie Review] | When I heard that Prey is the prequel to the Predator series, of course I have to watch it. But then again, I said that to almost all movies right?

I thought this one would be more interesting as it would involve the earlier settlers tribe. We'll see how it fairs ya.

• Released 35 years after the original Predator (1987) and the first Predator film to be released as a streaming exclusive. And it is also the first standalone Predator movie with a female lead. 
  
• This is the fifth entry in the series (not including Alien vs Predator films) and reportedly not have any connection to The Predator (2018).
• The line 'if it bleeds, we can kill it' is a reference to the original Predators film.
  

The movie starts in 1700s, showing a young Comanche woman, Naru who dreams of becoming a great hunter like her brother, Taabe, and not a healer like the women in her tribe. Often, she hunts on her own with her loyal dog, Sarii. On one of her hunts, she witnesses a 'thunderbird' and she takes it as a sign that she is ready to prove herself as a hunter. In fact, it was a Predator's spaceship entering Earth.

Taabe agrees to bring her as he leads a search party for the mountain lion that attacked one of the tribe's hunter. They brings home the wounded hunter while Taabe stays to complete the hunt. Naru, being a stubborn one, circles back and joins Taabe. She manages to trap the lion but hits her head after being distracted by a burst of light. Taabe brings her home, after which he returns to finish the lion and gets honored by the whole tribe. 

Not one to succumb to a lose, Naru leaves with Sarii to hunt and prove her value where she comes across a herd of masterfully skinned bison - which makes her wonder who/ what is the hunter. 

Later while trying to kill a grizzly bear, to whom she quickly get cornered by, she watches as the bear being overpowered and killed by another predator in a form that she has never seen before. She quickly runs and stumbles upon a pack of her tribe, looking for her. 

The creature ambushes the pack and kills them. Naru traps herself in a metal trap and the creature leaves her alone when it sees that Naru is no longer a trap. 

A group of French voyageurs, apparently the ones that skinned the bison, comes across the wounded Naru and caged her. 

Not long after, the creature catches up to the French and kills most of them while Taabe and Naru escape. 

Can Naru and her tribe overcome the predator, with all its modern weaponry?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.8/ 5.0 The story is about women empowerment, of course. And I love the plot where the advanced aliens going against an ancient tribe. 

And to have the authentic Comanche languages thrown in, what a great way to introduce the culture to the world. I hope more movies will introduce cultures like these so that we could appreciate the world cultures.
