Evangeline “Evy” Babic is a young woman with a Catholic upbringing, trying to balance the emotional burden of caring for her comatose mother while co-hosting The Undertone, a paranormal podcast with her friend, Justin. Unlike Justin, who firmly believes in ghosts and supernatural entities, Evy approaches every case with logic and scepticism. Their latest investigation begins when they receive an anonymous email containing ten mysterious audio recordings that seem ordinary at first.

Curiosity quickly turns into obsession as the recordings reveal disturbing voices, hidden messages and cryptic warnings that can only be heard when played in reverse. Even familiar nursery rhymes begin to carry sinister meanings, shaking Evy’s confidence and forcing her to question everything she thought she knew. As strange occurrences begin invading her home and personal life, the line between coincidence and something far more terrifying starts to disappear.

Things become even more unsettling when Evy discovers she is pregnant. Her personal fears about motherhood become intertwined with the mystery surrounding the recordings, leading her and Justin to uncover the legend of Abyzou, an ancient demon from Mediterranean folklore believed to prey on unborn children and mothers. From that moment onward, every clue seems connected to a growing darkness that refuses to stay confined within the recordings.

As more callers contact the podcast, each shares horrifying accounts linked to the same unseen force. Every revelation raises new questions, while the tension steadily builds through unsettling sound design, religious symbolism and an overwhelming sense of dread. 

With every new recording, Evy finds herself drawn deeper into a mystery that seems impossible to escape. The horrifying events surrounding the podcast begin spilling into reality, blurring the boundaries between myth, belief and terrifying truth. As fear consumes everyone connected to the recordings, Evy must confront both the darkness surrounding her and the doubts within herself before it is too late.

Are the recordings just evidence or did they awaken something waiting to be heard?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Based on sound alone and it lets your mind run wild. 

What I Don't Like:

• Even I feel trapped watching Evy in that house, never leaving the house.
  
• The movie is slow-paced.

Will I Watch It Again: Not on my favorite list.
