Obsession [Movie Review] | One review called it brilliant. Another said it was an absolute mess. The internet couldn't seem to make up its mind and that only made me more curious.

There was only one way to settle it. I had to watch it for myself. So, did it completely win me over or was it a spectacular disappointment? Let's find out.

Bear Bailey has spent years quietly hiding his feelings for his best friend, Nikki Freeman. The two enjoy an easy friendship, working together at a local music store alongside their close friends, Ian and Sarah. Life seems ordinary until Bear is left heartbroken by the sudden death of his beloved cat, Sandy.

While searching for a replacement gift for Nikki at a quirky crystal shop, Bear comes across a curious novelty called the One Wish Willow. The shopkeeper claims that each willow grants exactly one wish when broken. Caught up in grief, loneliness and years of unspoken feelings, Bear makes a wish that he believes will finally give him the life he has always wanted.

At first, everything seems almost too perfect. Nikki suddenly becomes affectionate, openly admits her feelings and the pair finally begin a relationship. But it does not take long for the fairy tale to unravel. Her affection soon turns into something far more intense, accompanied by unsettling behaviour, emotional outbursts and a growing list of lies that leave Bear questioning whether the woman standing before him is really the Nikki he has always known.

Before long, Nikki becomes so attached that Bear can barely find a moment to himself. Even the simple act of going to the bathroom feels impossible without her wanting to know where he is or insisting on being close to him. What should have been an ideal romance slowly becomes suffocating.

As the days pass, Nikki's devotion spirals into an unhealthy obsession. Everyday conversations erupt into frightening confrontations, while ordinary moments become emotionally draining. Bear does everything he can to protect Nikki and explain away her increasingly bizarre behaviour, but there are only so many excuses he can make before the cracks begin to show. The relationship he once dreamed of soon becomes the very thing he desperately wants to escape.

But what exactly did Bear wish for? And as with every wish that seems too good to be true, could there be a price waiting to be paid?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Nikki's emotional and behaviour transformation is exquisite - I would say almost at par as Kevin in Split. Even I got scared at some scenes.   

What I Don't Like:

• I actually want to know more the backstory of One Wish Willow - that would be great to know the origin of the so called 'wish'.

Will I Watch It Again: I don't mind watching it again, but not on my priority list.
