In a near-future Los Angeles where justice runs on code, Mercy Capital Court has traded robes and gavels for ruthless algorithms. Artificial intelligence now presides over violent crime trials, granting defendants unrestricted access to databases, surveillance feeds and every digital trace of their lives. They are given 90 minutes to prove their innocence. Fail, and a sonic blast delivers the final sentence. Mercy is judge, jury and executioner.

Detective Chris Raven of the Los Angeles Police Department has always believed in the system. To him, it is clean, efficient and incorruptible. Until the machine decides he is guilty.

Chris awakens strapped to a chair beneath the unblinking interface of AI Judge Maddox, accused of murdering his wife, Nicole. The evidence is devastating. Her blood stains his clothing. Doorbell footage places him at their home moments before her death. Maddox calculates a 97.5 percent probability of guilt. To survive, Chris must push that number below 92 percent within 90 minutes.

He begins tearing through every lead available. Nicole had been seeing another man, Patrick Burke. Chris’s partner, Jaq Diallo, tracks him down. Patrick insists Nicole was troubled at work, entangled in reports of stolen chemicals, and unable to confide in Chris. Their marriage had already been strained. After Chris’s former partner was killed in the line of duty, he slipped back into alcoholism, and distance grew between them.

Revisiting footage from a recent barbecue, Chris studies familiar faces with new suspicion. Attention shifts to Nicole’s co-worker Holt Charles, then to Robert Nelson, Chris’s sobriety sponsor. Security feeds, Britt’s social media posts and parking lot surveillance begin to reveal something far more calculated.

Robert’s brother, David Webb, was the first person executed by Mercy Court. Now Robert wants retribution. He has kidnapped Britt. The stolen chemicals may have been turned into a bomb.

But why target Chris? And how deep does Mercy’s promise of perfect justice truly go?
