Alien: Romulus [Movie Review] | I am so excited to watch this one. Not that I am an avid follower of the Alien series, but I love watching extra-terrestrial themed movies.
So, what's new in this one?

- It is the ninth installment in the Alien franchise, set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). It takes place in the year 2142, exactly 20 years after Alien (situated in 2122) and 37 years before Aliens (2179).
- Wanna know how to fully experience Alien in the right order? Here you go. Prometheus (2012) takes place in 2093, Alien: Covenant (2017) takes place in 2104, Alien (1979) takes place in 2122, Alien: Isolation (2014) takes place in 2137, Alien: Romulus (2024) takes place in 2142, Aliens (1986) takes place in 2179, Alien³ (1992) takes place in 2179, and Alien Resurrection (1997) takes place in 2381. Although Alien: Isolation is not a film, its events are considered to be officially part of the Alien canon, and director Fede Alvarez has acknowledged the game's aesthetic influence on his film.

The movie starts with a Weyland-Yutani space probe investigates the wreckage of a spaceship and retrieves an organic object containing a xenomorph (alien). The probe auto-pilots to its origin.
Rain Carradine, an orphan, works at the colony Jackson's Star alongside her adoptive brother Andy, a reprogrammed synthetic human. After Weyland-Yutani forcibly extends her contract, Rain’s ex-boyfriend Tyler convinces her to join an expedition to recover cryostasis chambers from a derelict spacecraft. The chambers are essential for Rain, Tyler, his pregnant sister Kay, cousin Bjorn, and Bjorn's girlfriend Navarro to escape to the planet Yvaga. Andy’s ability to interface with the spacecraft’s computer system is crucial for the mission.

At first, Rain hesitates to involve Andy but eventually Tyler and Andy persuade her to let him help. The group travels aboard the spaceship Corbelan to the spacecraft, which they discover is actually a station divided into sections named Romulus and Remus.
In order to retrieve the stasis chambers, Tyler, Bjorn, and Andy enters into a room full of alien storage. Without them knowing, they inadvertently revive the storage and now the aliens are crawling inside the station and in the room, where the trio are accidentally locked in. To override the door, Rain installs a chip from a damaged android, Rook, into Andy, boosting his efficiency and clearance but also altering his loyalty to Weyland-Yutani and no longer to protect Rain.
They manages to open the door but one of the aliens attaches itself to Navarro. Rain reactivates Rook, who reveals that the station’s crew was killed by the aliens and its clones. Tyler attempts to remove the alien on Navarro, but Rook warns that it may have implanted an embryo. Despite Andy’s protests, Bjorn flees with Navarro on the Corbelan and locks Rain, Tyler and Andy on the station. An alien emerges from Navarro, killing her, and the Corbelan crashes into the Romulus hangar, putting the station on a collision course with Jackson’s planetary rings. With less than an hour to escape, Kay regains consciousness after the crash and encounters Bjorn, who fights an alien before dying from its acidic blood.

Andy refuses to open a door to protect Rain and Tyler, forcing them to watch helplessly as Kay is critically injured and dragged away. Andy finds samples of a compound extracted from the alien, referred to by Rook as the "Prometheus fire". Rook insists these samples must be brought back to the colony, preventing the Corbelan from leaving without them.
Rain and Tyler manage to rescue Kay from a cocoon, but Tyler is killed, and Andy is incapacitated. Severely injured, Kay injects herself with the compound during their escape. Rain returns to Romulus, removes the control chip from Andy, restoring his loyalty to her. They escape to the Corbelan just before the station crashes into the rings, destroying Rook.
Are they truly safe now? Will all of them arrive safely at Yvaga?
