- Yes, shark attacks do happen in a river, miles away from the sea.
Sophia and her team are in search for Lilith, a tagged mako shark under the Great Pacific garbage patch (it is a real thing). Then the team see an unusual sight of mako sharks hunting together, which apparently does not happen with mako shark. Then the team locates Lilith, who has grown significantly larger. Chris, Sophia's husband and the team leader, tries to take a sample of Lilith but the action turns Lilith to an angry Mako and attacks the team. Sophia, instead of running, dives after the team and sees Lilith for herself, before the shark escapes.
Three years later, Sophia now works at an aquarium in Paris. Mika, an environmentalist with Saviours of the Sea (SOS), informs her that Lilith’s tracking beacon is active, revealing the shark has traveled up the River Seine and is now in the city. Sophia is not convinced that Lilith is in Paris, in freshwater but Mika argued that the climate change and pollution might have contributed to her changing habitat.
When Adil, a Seine police diver discovers a man with a shark bite wounds in the Seine, he seeks Sophia's assistance about the matter. Not wanting the authority to kill Lilith, Mika ask Ben to turn the beacon off so she could rescue Lilith by herself later.
With the proof that there is a shark swimming in the Seine, Sophia and Adil seek the Mayor of Paris' approval to postpone the upcoming triathlon in the Seine, which was denied as the Mayor feels that the shark's problem will be settled in due time so that she could bask in the limelight when the event is successful.
Mika reveals Lilith's presence and invites the public to assist her mission in rescuing Lilith by inviting them to the catacomb, where Lilith is residing at the moment. The rescue mission attracts not only Lilith, but also some juvenile shark. Lilith and the juvenile sharks attack the crowd, resulting in casualties from both side.
Sophia opens up one of the dead juvenile shark only to find that the shark has mutated to survive fresh water and pregnant, meaning that the mutated sharks are able to produce without a mate. This could pose a bigger problem, with the triathlon well on its way.
Sophia and Adil devise a plan to lure Lilith and her juvenile out of the catacombs and kill as many as possible.
Will the plan succeed?
MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- A great way to remind us that pollution could alter so many things, and might be harmful to us all.
- The cast were great in delivering their roles. Really hate the Mayor.
What I Don't Like:
- Why is Sophia tracking Lilith? What has she done to Lilith that made her huge? Those questions were not answered in the movie.
- Some CGIs were overdone that it turns out funny.
- Now I will think twice before diving into the river too, thinking what other monsters waiting underneath it.
Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I probably will.
Overall: 4.6/ 5.0
