The Black Phone [Movie Review] | When I watched the trailer months before, I was so excited to watch it. And when it hits the cinema on Malaysia's shore, I quickly booked my tix to watch it.

In 1978, a kidnapper nicknamed 'The Grabber' is abducting boys from the streets of a Denver suburb.

Finney and Gwen lives with their abusive and alcoholic. They are both fiercely independent and bright kids. Finney is bullied and harassed at school but Robin always stands up for him and fends off the bullies.

In a current event, Bruce, one of Finney's friends are abducted. Gwen, who has the ability to psychic dream, dreams about Bruce's abduction and shares the information with Bruce's sister. The police comes to question Gwen as they are curious as Gwen shares details that are not with the public.

Her father don't like Gwen using her abilities as her mother, who had the same ability, died after listening too much to her dreams.

Then Robin gets abducted. Finney asks Gwen to help him find Robin, but to no avail. Not long after, Finney himself is abducted on his way home by the Grabber.

The Grabber brings him to a soundproofed basement. When he comes to (he was drugged during abduction), he realises that the Grabber loves wearing mask. There is nothing much in the basement - a bed, a toilet and a broken phone.

Not long after, when he's alone, Finney hears the broken phone rings and he answers it. Bruce speaks to him but he seems unable to remember his own name or what he did when he was alive. But he tells Finney about a tile that he had dug, in his bid to escape the basement.

More and more ghosts/ spirits of the abducted kids call Finney to assist him escaping the basement and take revenge of their deaths - although most of them don't seem to remember much about their lives.

Finney was almost manages to escape the basement and the house where he is abducted, but the Grabber managed to re-capture him.

Meanwhile, Gwen dreams about Finney and clues to his whereabouts. She tells her dreams to the police force but the search turns out unsuccessful. Not giving up, Gwen tries to put her dreams together and persistent in saving her brother.

Can Gwen save her brother in time as the Grabber loses his patience 'playing' with Finney?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.8/ 5.0 Inspite that it was in 1978, the movie is chilling and eerily similar to the current situation around the world where anyone could be abducted, by the ones you know in fact.

Why is The Grabber abducting the boys is the only question that was left unanswered.

Cast: 4.8/ 5.0 Splendid!

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I would and don't mind watching it again.

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
