Before I Wake [Movie Review] | I came across the movie when I was scrolling in Twitter. Someone made a thread and this one was listed.

So, I looked for it and decided to watch it.

• The film was scheduled for release in 2016 until Relativity Media filed for bankruptcy, which leaving the fate of the film unknown. Then Netflix acquired it. 
• It was originally titled 'Somnia' - which would be the third of Mike's films featuring a single Latin word (Absentia and Oculus).  

The story starts with a man trying to kill something, or someone when he enters a kid's bedroom. He fires it when he hears a commotion and awakens the kid. He cries. 

Soon, Jessie and Mark take in Cody, a 8-year old foster child, in hope that Cody could help them heal after their son, Sean, dies from accidental drowning. The social worker shares the story of Cody's life - how his mother died of cancer when he was three and previous attempts to foster him were unsuccessful. 

Cody tells Jessie that he is afraid of a nightmare creature called 'Canker Man' that always disturbs his sleep. Jessie brushes off the story, telling Cody that no dream could harm him. 

Later that night, the duo was surprised to see multi-colored butterflies in their living room. Soon as they rise to touch it, the butterflies disappear. It seems that the timing coincides as Cody wakes from his sleep.

In school, Cody befriends Annie and tries to steer out of Mark, the school bully's way. 

At home, Cody asks about the little boy in the family picture and Mark tells him about Sean. That night, the duo see Sean but Sean disappear as they try to hug him. 

Now Jessie knows that Cody's dream could literally comes true. She tries to manipulate Cody's ability to 'bring back' Sean every night - she shows Cody videos of Sean and always urges Cody to sleep right after. Mark feels like Jessie is manipulating Cody and confronts her about it. 

At school, Cody accidentally falls asleep and the 'Canker Man' appears right before the mean boy tries to assault Cody. The 'Canker Man' devours the bully right in front of Annie's eyes. 

Meanwhile, Jessie gets prescription of sleeping pill for kids when she told her doctor friend about Cody having trouble sleeping. That night, she puts the pill in Cody's drink so that she could spend longer time with Sean when Cody dreams of him. Sean appears but in the form of a monster and devours Mark as Mark tries hard to wake Cody. The monster knocks Jessie out. 

When she regains consciousness, social services comes to her house and accuses her of domestic violence and child endangerment as she drugged Cody. Cody is taken away from Jessie. 

Jessie knows that Cody's dream is the reason behind everything and tend to entangle everything, to regain her life.

Can she keep Cody's beautiful dream to herself?

Plot: 4.7/ 5.0 Who is the monster - Jessie or the dreams? You'll be surprised by the twist. 

Cast: 4.7/ 5.0 Everyone was great, even the supporting actors are great. 

Will I Watch It Again: Don't mind if I do! I love it.
