Blue Miracle [Movie Review]

Blue Miracle [Movie Review] | I read the review of Blue Miracle before even watching it as I have not seen any promo or trailer of the movie before this.

As I have been missing my family greatly now, I think this movie will certainly amplify that feeling. Haha. Why am I torturing myself like this?

  • It seems that Dennis' character, Captain Wade Malloy, is completely fictional and was invented for the film.
  • After Omar reeled in the biggest qualifying catch of the tournament, a 385-pound blue marlin, Team Casa Hogar was awarded the overall team prize for the fish, the tournament jackpot, and the Day Two $500 Daily Jackpot. Team Casa Hogar gave all of their $258,325 in prize money to the struggling orphanage that had been looking after the boys on the team.
  • According to the orphanage's website, "while there is no financial benefit to Casa Hogar for this movie, we are hopeful that Blue Miracle will raise awareness and sensitivity for private Social Assistance Centers in Mexico, most of which, like ours, operate as charities without government funding."

Omar and his wife have been running the local orphanage for boys, Casa Hogar out of their accounts and some assistance from local companies.

The fund is low and the bank is ready to collect. When Hurricane Odile hits Cabo and floods Casa Hogar, 'Papa Omar' as he is fondly known by the boys, goes to the marina to secure jobs by helping around there. He sees his friends at Brisbee's asking for any jobs that he could do to earn some cash for Casa Hogar.

Brisbee's, a company known for its high-stakes fishing tournaments that is also affected by the hurricane, decides to waive fees for local fishermen in order to ensure the competition still takes place as semi-normal.

Captain Wade, a two-time winner of the competition wants to secure his third win but no locals want to be his crew due to his proud and loud misdemeanour. And the entrance requirement of the competition is that the fishing crew must be made of both locals and non-locals.

The trophy for winning the competition is huge enough to save Casa Hogar - an enticing offer made by Brisbee's owner to Omar. Both are pressured by their wants - one wanting to save Casa Hogar and another wanting to claim a title - finally agreed to work together.

The irony is - Papa Omar is afraid of the sea as his father was claimed by the sea when he was younger and Captain Wade is one proud captain that needs no help from anyone.

Will the sea allows them both their dreams or will it swallow their dreams whole?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.0/ 5.0 This is one very straightforward movie that will not require you to think deep - it will only require you to feel for others.

If you are anything like me who has been missing their family for almost 3 years now, prepare your tissue as there are some heart-tugging scenes - at least they are to me.

Cast: 3.6/ 5.0 Dennis plays his part as a disgruntled and proud captain well. Jimmy is commendable for his part - he could be better, I assume. The boys - great choice.

Will I watch it again: I probably will, with my nephews and nieces when I am able to go back to Sibu, Sarawak.

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.

  5. Suka tengok sebab cerita ni berdasarkan kisah sebenar. LAgi satu jangan lupa tengok cerita Take Off filem Korea.
