- Director Scott Derrickson once vowed The Black Phone would stand alone until fan demand and Ethan Hawke’s eerie “return from the dead” convinced Blumhouse to secretly develop the sequel under the codename Echoes at Maru.
- Madeleine McGraw filmed her dream scenes in reverse, creating a hauntingly surreal effect without CGI.
- The chilling lake scenes were shot on a real frozen lake in Alberta, where the crew monitored the ice daily and actors wore hidden harnesses in case it cracked.
- In the final credits’ eerie static, a whisper chills the air: “Another one waits.” Fans believe it teases a third Black Phone film or a haunting new series.

Four years after Finney (Finn) ended the reign of terror of the Grabber, he feels peace, but still angry. But for Gwen, her night now fills with nightmares. Her dreams begin to bleed into reality whereas she has visions of gruesome murders that took place at Alpine Lake Camp back in 1957. And coincidently, their mother used to volunteer there, around the same time.
Determined to uncover the truth buried beneath time and snow, Gwen persuades Finn and Ernesto, the brother of her late friend Robin Arellano, to travel to Alpine Lake Camp. The a once lively Christian youth retreat, now cloaked in eerie silence. As they arrive, a fierce blizzard seals them in with Armando, the camp supervisor, Mustang, his rebellious niece and Kenneth and Barbara, two camp workers.
On their second night, the camp’s long-dead payphone rings and Finn answers. It’s him, the Grabber. He blames Finn for his death, for the brother he was forced to kill. Soon after, Gwen is savagely attacked in a dream that feels too real. But maybe it was real as there was a handgrip-mark on her arms, exactly where the spirit in her dream grabbed here.

Finn, Ernesto and Mustang fight to save her during a series of nightmares after, realizing that the past is clawing its way back through the veil between life and death. The horror becomes real as Gwen’s dream wounds appear on her body.
In the camp’s candle-lit chapel, the group learns the chilling truth. In order to weaken the Grabber’s hold, they must find the bodies of his victims hidden beneath frozen Lake Maru. But as they dig deeper, more secrets unravel. There's a dark history in the past that connects them all.
When Gwen faces the Grabber again in her dream, he reveals the most harrowing truth of all that Hope didn’t take her own life. He did it.
Can they escape from the Grabber?
