The Conjuring: Last Rites [Movie Review]

The Conjuring: Last Rites [Movie Review] | Yes! Finally it landed.

And I was more than happy when my friends invited me to watch this one - as I was also intended to go and watch it too.

Knowing this will be the last one, it kinda bittersweet.

In 1964, the legendary demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren found themselves tangled with an ominous artifact—an antique mirror tucked away in a curious little shop. But what seemed like just another haunted relic quickly spiraled into horror. The moment Lorraine touched the mirror, it shattered. She collapsed, gripped by a terrifying vision of an unearthly entity and of her unborn child. Lorraine sensed that something amiss with her baby and immediately asked Ed to send her to the nearest hospital.

With time ticking against them, Ed rushed his wife to the hospital as the couple fought off the presence that threatened to claim both Lorraine and their baby. Against all odds, their daughter Judy was born—still, fragile, and on the brink of death—until a sliver of divine intervention pulled her back into the world of the living.

Fast forward twenty-two years. The Smurl family of Pennsylvania, Jack and Janet Smurl, together with Jack’s parents and four daughters, just moved into a two-story house that was filled with love and laughter.

It was Heather's confirmation and her grandparents managed to get a full-length carved on wood mirror as her present. Just as she about to blow the candle on her cake, someone else blew it first. Heather blamed her older sister. Not long after, a ceiling light nearly crushed Heather during her confirmation. Feeling something amiss about the mirror, Heather and her sister got rid of it and tried to blame it on their younger twin siblings. Somehow, the mirror fought back. Thus the start of the torture and haunting around the house.

Desperate and terrified, the Smurls went public. Meanwhile, Judy, now grown and newly engaged to Tony Spera, grappled with psychic visions growing stronger by the day. She started to have terrifying visions that seems too real.

Their family friend, Father Gordon got wind of the Smurl's case and tried to help. But he sensed he needed the Warren's help with this one. Father Gordon’s attempt to intervene ended in tragedy when he found hanged. Somehow, Judy managed to trace Father Gordon's steps and follow her visions straight into the Smurls’ haunted home.

It wasn’t long before Ed and Lorraine were dragged back into the fight they had tried to leave behind as they felt the dark power was too strong for them to handle. At the Smurl residence, the malevolence was undeniable—two restless spirits tied to unspeakable murders and a demon rooted deep within the cursed mirror. And all of them wanted one thing only.

What keeps the demons coming back? What is that one thing they asked for?
