Peranakan: A Musical Legacy – When Music Wears a Kebaya | Peranakan: A Musical Legacy presented by Somerset Music is no ordinary concert. It’s a cultural journey, a heartwarming fundraiser, and a celebration of a heritage as colourful as the kebayas worn on stage.

With The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and World Vision Malaysia as its co-beneficiaries, this event carries a mission as beautiful as its melodies – supporting communities in need while preserving the artistry of Southeast Asia’s Baba and Nyonya traditions.
PERANAKAN: A MUSICAL LEGACY concert celebrates the diversity of Southeast Asia’s Peranakan heritage – a blend of Malay, Chinese, and colonial influences that’s uniquely vibrant and endlessly fascinating. Think of it as a living time capsule, wrapped in song.
A Musical Feast for the Heart & Soul
Somerset Music is bringing together talents from all walks of life – including singers with special needs – to present a thoughtfully curated programme of folk songs passed down through generations.
"We want the audience to feel the warmth of togetherness through music," says Joanne Poh, Principal of Somerset Music. Expect nostalgic gems like Rasa Sayang, Chan Mali Chan, Lenggang Kangkung, Bengawan Solo, and more – each carrying stories of kampung life, family bonds, and love that transcends time.
Julian Wong Ming Vui, Chairman of NASOM, calls it "a celebration of culture that shines a light on autism awareness while giving our NASOM Maestros a platform to showcase their talent."
Hernando Betita III, CEO of World Vision Malaysia, adds, "This initiative supports vulnerable communities and individuals with special needs – turning music into meaningful change."
