Brick [Movie Review]

Brick [Movie Review] | I recognized the main actor and the simplicity of its title grabbed my attention.

Tim and Olivia have been drifting apart ever since she suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. While Olivia dreams of a fresh start in Paris, Tim retreats into the solitary world of video game programming. Their relationship is barely hanging on, and when Olivia finally decides to leave, she opens the front door only to find a black, metallic wall blocking her exit. Their apartment is completely sealed in, and they're not alone. She thought that Tim installed the wall there but Tim insisted that he has no knowledge it.

The mysterious material is like something out of science fiction: matte-black, tesselated bricks with magnetic properties strong enough to send metal objects flying. With no cell signal, no running water, and only the power still working, Tim and Olivia must fight to survive and find a way out. They manage to drill into a neighboring unit, where they meet Ana and Marvin, an unstable couple who are just as trapped and even more panicked. Marvin even thought that the host of the unit is the superhost that is playing tricks on them.

As the group tunnels through the building, they encounter a paranoid conspiracy theorist named Yuri and discover that their creepy landlord, Mr. Friedman, had been spying on all the tenants. Hidden cameras, bloodied corpses, and rooms full of surveillance footage paint a grim picture. Tensions rise, especially when Ana dies a brutal death trying to pass through a shimmering portal in the wall, a mistake that also likely cost Friedman his hands.

Tim discovers that the walls are part of a failed nanotech defense project possibly triggered by a massive fire across town.

Is the wall keeping them in or keeping something else out?
