Facts on Breast Cancer

I have been reading about Breast Cancer because
1) I need the knowledge
2) I am surrounded by ladies

My main source of reading material has been from online websites such as Pride Foundation, Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia and National Cancer Society Malaysia .
Why do I focus on Malaysia?
I think I need to get the grasp of a closer demography before focusing on a more global view.

A few facts that I gathered through the websites :
  • Did you know that Breast Cancer afflicts an estimated of more than ONE MILLION women in the world each year and is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide, second to lung cancer?
  • Did you know that of that ONE MILLION afflicted women, almost 45% of those are living in developing countries?
  • Did you know that of the new cases of female Breast Cancer reported in Malaysia in 2003, 64% were womrn between the ages of 40 to 60 years old?
  • Did you know that Chinese women seemed to be at greatest risk, followed by Indian women and Malay women?
  • Did you know that early detection and getting appropriate medical attention can help save lives? And is is unfortunate in Malaysia that nearly 40% of the new cases identified each year were already in the very advanced stages of the disease.
  • Did you know that while being slim is not enough to ward off Breast Cancer, weight is still an important factor in one acquiring Breast Cancer?

  • Did you know that being obese raised the odds of getting Breast Cancer by 58%?
So, ladies, in order to ward off this killer disease, please be kind to yourself and your body.
Please :
  1. Eat right
  2. Exercise religiously
  3. Lose weight
  4. Be positive
