Holidate [Movie Review]

Holidate [Movie Review] | It is never too early to watch a feel-good movie. When I first saw the poster for the movie, I thought 'Hey. Christmas comes early this year.'

Comedy, Romance, Rom-Com, Emma Roberts, Movie Review by Rawlins, Rawlins GLAM, Rawlins Lifestyle, Netflix, Netflix Original Movie, Luke Bracey

And then realised that 2020 has been such a roller coaster ride (mostly downhill and scary) that a feel-good movie will provides an escapism for some of us.

Sloane's family has been pestering her about her love-life, especially when she's back home alone during the festive seasons. Her mother will always try to introduce a nice young guy to her and her Aunt Susan will always bring a new guy to the family gatherings, every single time. Taking the cue from her aunt who seems happy with her single life, Sloane builds a wall around her so that no one will hurt her again and insisted that she is contented with her current life.

Meanwhile, Jackson is an Australian golf-trainer now staying in the US and is always looking for a companion during the holidays. But it seems that the girls are expecting a stronger and long-time commitment when he is home with the girl during the holidays- and that was not he was looking for, at the moment.

Met in a store, both trying to return their gifts, Sloane and Jackson agreed that they can provide a solution to each other's problem, without the commitment. So, both agreed to adopt Aunt Susan's concept of 'holidate' i.e. a date for the holidays - thus agreeing to be each other's date during the holidays, until agreed otherwise.

Both agreed that being a 'holidate' there were no expectation from the other to be courteous towards the other and they can be brutally honest with each other.

A year into the concept, both started to feel otherwise about each other. But their ego gets in the way.

How long can they both keep each other as a 'holidate'?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.0/ 5.0 Just like Emma said in the movie, it is the same plot as any other rom-com before this. Two persons in love but can't or won't be together. But they will be with each other at the end of the movie. So, nothing new.

The movie is about the concept and how they both try to deny their feelings. At some points, I might have shed a tear or two.

Cast: 4.6/ 5.0 Emma shines here. She is funny, vulnerable and seems so at ease in the movie. And Luke's mirrored her performance too.

And all those other supporting roles - they were equally good.

Will I watch it again: Yes, especially during the holidays (why do we always watch rom-com when it is holidays - or is it just me?)

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
