The Occupant [Movie Review]

The Occupant [Movie Review] | A friend of mine suggested me to watch the movie as I reviewed the Below Zero. She (Ayu Rafiqah) says that the actors are the same.

Yeah. Why not?

Javier lost his job and has been going around attending interviews, one after another, and did not get any of the job. It is not that he failed the interviews - he is actually overqualified for the job with his past portfolio speaks about his high-achieving themselves. And because of his track record, he refuses to take a job that is lower than his worth (or shall we say, his ego).

Being jobless for over a year while renting a city apartment does breaks the bank. He and his wife decides to move out of the apartment and move to his smaller sub-urban apartment. His wife takes a job as a cleaner at a departmental store while he still hunts for the 'right' job.

One day, he realises that he still has the keys to his city apartment. He started to visit the apartment that now is occupied by a family of three. He still have the keys to the apartment, so he just lets himself in and makes himself at home - helping himself to whatever he can finds in the apartment.

Somehow, he feels like going deeper into the family's lives. He goes through the mails, the emails, the personal items of the family and tries to find a connection between him and the family. Then he follows Tomas, the father of the family to a support group meeting and befriends him. There, he shares Tomas' family with the group, enacting like it was his family's history just to gain Tomas' trust and sympathy.

He then starts to make Tomas' life miserable with small changes in Tomas' schedule - something minute but changes the dynamics of Tomas' once peaceful and loving family and makes Tomas looks like a negligent father.

He then decides that he will have everything that Tomas has - no matter what it takes.

What will Javier sacrifice to have Tomas' life?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.3/ 5.0 The movie is slow-burning but it certainly very intense. It keeps me on my toes - figuring out what will Javier do next.

Do I like the end of the movie? No. Do I hate it? No, but I want more.

What people do for money.

Cast: 4.8/ 5.0 Its Javier Gutiérrez y'all. Now I know who he is after Below Zero. And Ayu also wrote a bit about him. He's powerful in his delivery.

The other actors are equally beautiful in their delivery. That dirty old Damian!

Will I watch it again: Yes. Now I am looking up for more thriller Spanish movies to watch.

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.

  3. Sounds like someone obsessive with stealing another person's identity...I mean life. He sure sounds like a loser. The plot itself is interesting.
