Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula [Movie Review]

Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula [Movie Review] | I really love Train To Busan that I watched the film a few times during the MCO. And I will end up a bit teary at the end of the movie, every single time.

So, when Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula airs, of course, I want to watch it - adhering the SOP all the way.

4 years ago, when the outbreak happens, Captain Jung-Seok brings his family (elder sister and her family) into a ship that leaves the Korean Peninsula. On their way, they met a family of three on the roadside that needed a hitch. Ignoring them with teary eyes, Jung-seok drove away.

Jung-seok leaves the family in a cabin of the moving ship to meet his superior when he learns that the ship is changing its course. That's when an infected man turns into a zombie and infected those in the room, including his nephew. He tries to save his sister but the sister insisted on staying behind with her child. Jung-Seok has to leave the cabin and stop his brother-in-law, Chul-min from entering the cabin.

Fast-forward to four years later, Jung-seok reunites with Chul-min during a mission briefing by a treasure hunter. The treasure hunter wants Jung-seok, along with Chul-min and two other Koreans to return to the quarantined peninsula and retrieve an abandoned food truck that contains bags of cash amounting to US$20 million.

Traveling to the Peninsula via the ocean, the four arrives safely at the Incheon Port and starts looking for the truck. While trying to get control of the truck, Chul-min accidentally presses the truck's horn that attracts the zombies to their location.  They managed to subdue the attack and run towards the pier unharmed.

But before reaching the port, they were ambushed by Unit 631, a platoon led by Sergeant Hwang. Jung-seok who was thrown from the truck was unharmed either by the platoon or the zombies. Chul-min hides inside the truck while the other two perished on site. Unit 631 drives the truck away, leaving Jung-seok at the mercy of the hordes of zombies.

A car comes rushing and saves Jung-seok. Inside, he finds Joon-i and her sister, Yu-jin who later brings him to their hideout - where he meets with Min-jung, the mum and Elder Kim, the grandfather. Jung-seok immediately recognizes Min-jung as the couple that he refused to offer a lift when he was fleeing the Korean Peninsula four years ago.

Now, they realized that their only way out of the Korean Peninsula is by contacting the ship that dropped them earlier - and to contact the ship, Jung-seok needs the satellite phone left inside the truck. Together with Ming-jun, Jung -seok tries to infiltrate the Unit 631's compound to retrieve both the truck and the phone.

 Who is Unit 631?
Will the whole gang make it out of the Korean Peninsula with the cash?

MY REVIEW:
The Plot: 4.7/ 5.0 Being the movie is four years after the first incident, I was ready for any kind of plot. And it being a treasure-hunting expedition was totally a brand new idea to explore the zombie-infested country. After watching it, I can conclude it was a great mashup of 'Mad Max' and 'Fast and Furious' done in Korea. And Bella Rahim is in the movie.

The Cast: 4.8/ 5.0 GREAT PERFORMANCE! Everybody brought their character to life and more! The kids - they were marvelous! The main characters were magnificent!

Will I Watch It Again: I don't mind watching it again with the right companion.

The pictures are taken from IMDb and other sources on the Internet. Thank you.
