I Discovered Gems in Tadom Hill Resorts

Visiting viral exciting and interesting places seems to be the latest craze. With the fast sharing via IG and FB, it seems that there is always a new, beautiful and exciting place being discovered every single day.

When I first saw this picture on the net, I never thought that it is in Malaysia, and for it to be located some 40 km from my place is even more mind-blowing. That information alone makes me want to visit Tadom Hill Resorts even more but due to time constraint and prior commitments, I have to postpone my plan a few times. And when I finally reached Tadom Hill Resorts, I was ecstatic.

Address: Bukit Tadom, Kampung Labohan Dagang, 42700 Banting, Selangor Darul Ehsan

My 45 minutes drive to Tadom Hill Resorts (THR) brought me to a lake settlement just beside the highway. To be more precise, Tadom Hill Resorts is located adjacent to KL International Airport, thus one can see planes taking off and landing all the time while one is enjoying the nature here.

The registration for our group was smooth and I certainly felt welcomed. Being around a lot of people of different ethnicity in my line of work, I had a feeling that the front-liners of the registration counter were not Malays (at least not of pure Malay, they must be of mix parentage). I will talk to them later on, I told myself.

As our group was early (we decided to stay for 2 nights and the check-in time is at 2 pm), we decided to first try the flying fox. Jay, one of the staff of THR, was assigned to be the PIC of our activities in THR. And man, Jay is very particular about safety. In fact, all the staff of THR was very particular about safety - they keep on checking whether the harnesses were all on and attached and one is wearing a life-jacket whenever water activity is involved. Good job THR!

After a safety briefing and equipment check-up by the staff, we were then brought to a hill about 5 minutes walking distance from the reception area. At this time, I was so looking forward to screaming at the top of my lung - I needed the release! At the top of the hill, again, the staff checked our equipment while explaining about the activity. It is not a long journey to the other side of the lake and uses the double pulley (extra safety measure too). And yeah, I did scream at the top of my lung!

My Review of Flying Fox: The journey is short and not steep, so it is advisable for those with fear of heights to try this one out. I love the fact that it uses the double pulley for that extra safety.

We were feeling adventurous and everybody was very competitive. So we decided to put our competitive energy in the game of combat archery. The arrows that we used has rubber balls at the end of it, instead of a pointy and sharp arrowhead. After securing all the safety equipment and a thorough briefing, our archery skills were put to the test.

My Review of Combat Archery: It is safe and it is fun. Play the activity early in the morning or when the sun is coming down. If you are playing it during mid-day, be sure to drink lots of water. You'll gonna need it. Don't forget to put on some sunblock lotion too.

We were then served lunch. After two physical activities, you can see everyone was hungry. We sat at the Garden Bistro Western Cafe and ate our lunch overlooking the lake.

I was actually looking forward to checking in into one of the bamboo tents/ houses at THR. However, as it was a peak season and all those insta-worthy looking accommodations were taken, we were brought to a round-shaped two-storey building located just beside the open parking area. It is actually another form of accommodation and the latest addition to the list of accommodation at THR. It is called Hakka Village, taking its concept from the nomadic lifestyle of Hakka people in China. We were given the top rooms where each room could accommodate up to 8 people at a time.

FUN FACT: Hakka Village is made up of 6000 bamboo sticks and took 6 months to complete. In China, the settlement of such is called Tulou.

After settling in, we were told to dress for some water activity. YEEHAAA! As always, me being me, I put on some sunblock lotions and spray on the exposed body parts as I don't want the tan spoiling my mood! Of course, you still have to look good, even when it is scorching hot!

After being briefed about the machine and the safety measures of riding an ATV, we rode the machine for a good 20 minutes around THR. Truth be told, I was a bit afraid of the machine might overturn like what happened to me years before. But Jay gave his words and promised that he will be riding beside me. 20 minutes later - I wanted to ride again! Haha. It was fun, the ride was smooth and the view was magnificent!

My Review of ATV Ride: It is safe and it is fun. Put on your sunblock if you are riding it in the midday.

After returning the ATV to its station, we went for splashing good time, trying out the latest addition to the water rides - namely the Water Skipper. The operator made it look very easy and simple riding it but most of us failed in riding that skipper. Disappointed for not being able to ride the skipper, most of us rode the water cycle, the transparent boat and the round boat (I don't know what it is called hahaha). Much safer and don't need special skills to ride on them. AND, a lifejacket is a must while riding all these water rides.

My Review of the Water Rides: Water Skipper - you'll gonna have to master this one before riding it. The other rides are fun!

Since most of us were wet (from failing to ride the skipper), we went straight to the main bamboo jetty where once again we were to compete in a bamboo raft race. No special skill needed here - just a whole bunch of muscle to wade your way through the lack, pushing the bamboo raft.

My Review of Bamboo Raft Race: Fun and tiring. A good game for a team building activity.

That night, we DIY our own BBQ dinner. With the soft wind blowing from the lake, there were bonfires beside us, made by others and some people were having an open karaoke session, it was a fun relaxing BBQ session. Everyone was merry and happy, some even singing along with karaoke.

Unfortunately for us, the next day's activities were cancelled due to heavy rain. Unexpected but we killed the time by playing Monopoly in the room. When the rain finally stopped, it was almost lunchtime. Jay brought us to a shaded area behind the Hakka Village and shared with us about the core of THR.

About Tadom Hill Resorts
Tadom Hill Resorts boasts almost 40 acres of limestones hills, lakes and trees. THR was built to give back to the local Orang Asli Temuan community of Kampung Bukit Tadom. By building and developing THR, it gives job opportunities for the community, either by being the supplier or being employed as a staff of THR. There you go. I know that the receptionists were not Malays. Haha.

As bamboo is a resource with multi-purpose, most of the items found in THR are made from bamboo. From the very structure of the accommodations up to the amenities at THR (shampoo and charcoal). This is the fact about THR that I love the most- the zero-waste usage of bamboo. Good job in preserving the environment THR!

The gems that I found in THR are the very relaxed and engaging activities to be done with family and friends, the serenity of the surrounding and the of zero-waste practise of bamboo used. We should have more resorts like these. And I will definitely come back to THR as I have yet to take that signature lake jump picture here!
