It is almost the end of the year. And guess what's coming in November soon? And there will be another holiday coming up in November! Yeay!

Last weekend, I went there to witness the prize-giving ceremony for the Lulu Hypermarket 2nd Anniversary (Lulu Entry 2). The grand prize winners get to bring home a Perodua Myvi each! And there were more prizes such as Yamaha Lagenda motorcycles, Huawei P10 Smartphone and Lulu vouchers given away to the winners, among almost 2000,000 entries that have been pouring in since the contest started. Lucky people, I would say!

Datin Hajjah Fouziah Gous was also in attendance to give away the prizes as well as to launch her product, FGWalet. FGWalet is a health drink based on the bird's nest and is now available in Lulu Hypermarket Capsquare Kuala Lumpur.
Since I was already there and the sale was still ongoing, I might as well check out the discounts. And boy oh boy, was I happy that I decided to explore the floors.

I decided to check the Lulu Celebrate department because I know people would want to know what offers they have in store for the upcoming light festival. And yes, I guessed correctly when I saw the abundance of sarees choices, the blinking glitters from the ladies accessories and the attractive discounts for all the items there. Believe me that you'll be spoilt for choices when you shop for the festival here.

Oh. One more thing. For 3 days only (2nd to 4th November), in conjunction with the upcoming festive season, Lulu is having a ‘Flat 50% Off” promotion on fashion items, footwear and ladies bag! So, come over and shop like nobody's business, people!

After checking out the sarees and also the traditional Indian items of clothing (read: trying out some of them too), I decided that I wanted to join in the merriment in the grocery area. I would say that the situation is almost similar to a Black Friday sales in this area. There were so many people and it is of no surprise because every single item is on in-store discounts that you can never find elsewhere, may it be the locally produces products or the imported items. Even the meats and fish sections were also having sales.

It is the month of October, the month of the ghoul (according to our friends in the across the seas) and the month of Halloween celebration.

As for us in Malaysia, it is the month for horror movies (here are the list) So, when I received the invitations from Neyra and Rane for the movie Malicious, I was ever eager to accept them because I love to get spooked every now and then.
SYNOPSIS The movie starts with a husband killing his wife by saying 'What I should have done a long time ago' by banging her head with a fireplace poker.

Then the movie shifts into a couple of happy-to-be parents driving up to their new home. When they enter the house, a home warming gift from her sister awaits them.
The husband, Adam tries to open the gift, an antique box but it won't open. They just leave the box on the fireplace mantel and goes around the house, checking out the entire house.

I wonder if I could fit into the crib

Why is the lighting here sucks? It seems that a house with very bad lighting prone to have its own hauntings

After settling in, the next day, Adam goes to his teaching university leaving Lisa, the expecting wife behind, but not before reminding her not to run and to not do any heavy lifting, especially setting up the baby crib. Ignoring Adam's advise, Lisa goes on and set up the crib before she suddenly sees the antique box in the nursery. Her curiosity gets to her and to her astonishment, the box opens.
During her run, she met a distressed and blood-covered woman who told her that she is not well. Spooked by that experience, she called Adam to share the incident.
Meanwhile, Adam got a visit from the head of his department, Dr. Clark who not only teaches Math but also a study of the spiritual (can't remember the term). Adam laughs when he learns that Dr Clark believes in such matters because to him, life is just like Math, logical and nothing more.

Did you not get the memo about dressing up for dinner?

Then suddenly, the lives of the to-be parents start to get weird and eerie. They heard voices, see people and come to a point, touched by people who are not around them.
What or who is messing with their lives? How will they deal with it?
MY REVIEW Plot: 3.0/ 5.0. I have to give credit where its due. The movie has a twist about the ghost where it latches on the hopes of the young parents - their instinct to protect their youngs. Was I spooked? Not really as the ghosts have a very little appearance in the movie (almost like a second thought). And when they mentioned the box as an Aztec relics, I was actually expecting a more aged and a bit rustic box, but the box was very new. Perhaps because the previous owners took very good care of the box, throughout the centuries. Hahaha.
Cast: 3.4/ 5.0. Just ok to me. Nothing worth getting awed over.
Will I watch it again: No. The movie is suitable for those who want to get scared, just a tiny bit.

Trick or Treat with Golden Screen Cinemas

It is the month of October, meaning, in two months time, we will be welcoming the new year. But before that, it is also the time for Halloween, the month of good screams and scares. Not forgetting the time for trick or treating.

In Malaysia, in Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) to be exact, Halloween is celebrated by having Screens of Terror campaign for all, throughout the month of October where everyone will be having a screaming and terrifying good time with an abundance of giveaways to some of the scariest spooktacular appearances.
There is Witching Hour Weekend where customers may redeem candy from the witches and wizards of GSC as they enter the cinema. You will know who are the witches and the wizards by their pointy hats and crookedly smiling pumpkin heads.
Psst: The wizards and the witches are actually the GSC staff.
Oh. When you encounter Freddy Krueger or Count Dracula anywhere in the cinema area, please do not freak out and beat them down as they are the characters flown specifically for the celebration. Venom [Movie Review]

Again, I am always excited when it comes to Marvel movies. Venom is included. Thanks to Klips My for the premiere invitation. It was an invitation that is very hard to resist.
SYNOPSIS The movie starts with a Life Foundation's rocket failing while entering Earth with its 'precious cargo 'and crash-landed in Sibu, Sarawak! The cargo infected the nearby people and possesses a lady with Life Foundation's logo in her hand.

Yes, you read it right! It landed in Sibu, Sarawak! That's my hometown y'all. I have to check on my family now.

Eddie Brock, a famous journalist lost his job and future when he decided to disobey his superior's instruction to conduct a decent interview with Life Foundation's founder, Carlton Drake. Instead of questioning him about his future plans, Eddie decided to question Carlton about his lab's morality on human experiment and the court case against the Life Foundation, based on a confidential email received by his girlfriend. After which, he was fired.
Spiralling down with no job and life, Eddie's life change when he met Dr Dora Skirth. Dr Skirth can no longer tolerate Carlton's immorality and decided to share the evidence with Brock. She sneaked Brock into the lab. Inside the lab, Brock realises that all the experiment test subjects are homeless people and one of them is his friend. He manages to break her out from the cell, but Maria (the homeless friend) jumped and strangled him.

This costume will take too much space

Fleeing the lab, Eddie realised that he has contracted a parasite of a sort when he starts to hear voices. And when the bad guys from the lab crush his place, the dark matter that materialises from his body and attacks the bad guys confirms his fear that he is not well.
Again, he manages to flee the scene alive, all the while getting to know the dark matter and the voice inside his head. It is an alien race that wants to conquer the world and it needs a host to survive in Earth's environment. The alien introduced itself as Venom.

And I thought my husband is ugly!

Meanwhile, the alien that crash-landed in Sibu has managed to find its way to the lab. It changes body from Sarawak by possesses different hosts along the way. When it reaches the lab, it possesses Carlton and introduced itself as Riot.
Eddie's good nature must have taken its effect on Venom when Venom starts to like Earth and don't want its race to take over Earth. In order to save Earth, Venom has to stop Riot from flying back to their planet and return with the race.
There is only one problem - Riot is a major leader and packed with lots of weapons, whereas Venom is just a nobody.

When riding a tricycle is too mainstream

Will Eddie/ Venom succeed in their mission saving the Earth?
Psst: There will be two post-credit scenes with one being at the end of the credit. So, just stay on your seats until the very end ok.

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.8/ 5.0. Nothing new with the anti-hero movie plot. But I love how they build the character and the movie that will enable the non-Marvel fanatics to understand the film enough. What I love? The fight scenes, the monologue between the two characters and also the wittiness of Eddie in the movie.
Cast: 4.8/ 5.0. No comment whatsoever! Just love!
Will I watch it again: Yes. I don't mind watching it again!

Hell Fest [Movie Review]

It is October and some people are already looking forward to having Halloween (hello to my friends over the seas).

That is not the case for us in Malaysia as there are not so many holidays in the month of October (boo hu hu hu).
So, yesterday, my friends and I had a small reunion (read: eat coffee movie and eat session) and after a hearty dim sum lunch, we decided to watch a movie, and the only ones that fit into our schedule were Hell Fest. We love a little scare-movie, so why not?
SYNOPSIS The movie started with a group of three teenage girls in a Hell Fest at Orange County. One of them got separated during a scare and ended up being stabbed by a masked guy who has been following her around in the park. She was last seen hanged by the masked guy as if she was a part of the props.

Hello Hell?

Nat is visiting her best friend, Brooke to spend the weekend and realises that Taylor is now Brooke's roommate. Nat and Taylor do not get along well.
Gavin, a guy that likes Nat has arranged for the girls and their boyfriends to visit Hell Fest with VIP passes. Nat was a bit reluctant but she wants to spend the weekend with Brooke, so she just went along. And she also kinda likes Gavin, so she was hoping to indulge in her fondness towards Gavin.

Then come along a guy in a hoodie and there is a negative aura that surrounds him. He notices that a young woman was insulting a park worker. He sets his sight on him and starts to follow her.
Meanwhile, Nat and her girl group get separated from the guys in the maze. They come across the young girl screaming for her life, claiming that someone is following her and wanting to kill her. Assuming that it was a part of the park's gimmick, Nat tells the guy in the hoodie that she is not scared and tell him to just get on with the show. The guy stabs the girl in front of Nat before she leaves the scene, feeling funny that the scene was too real.

I love what you do to your walls man - wicked!

After that, she realises that the guy has been following she and her group all night. She complains to the group and they dismiss her complain.
When Gavin looks for a stuffed toy to give to Nat, he comes across the hoodie guy in the storeroom. Gavin is cornered by the guy before the guy smashes his head in with a mallet and steals his phone. He uses it to communicate with Nat.
As the group enters the Dead Lands, they realise that the employees of the Dead Lands are wearing the same mask as the killer guy. That makes Nat jumpy at every sight of the guy in the mask and the scares get real.

Please! I need to use the restroom, pronto!

Who will survive the Hell Fest? MY REVIEW Plot: 3.0/ 5.0. Just like any other scare movie, the plot is predictable. The group gets separated and killed one by one. But the twist of the movie is at the end of the movie. Not a strong plot and nothing new to see here too. Oh! There is a funny line during the movie when the girls are looking for a way out and decide to enter the Hell instead. Hello! The banner says 'Welcome To Hell' and not 'This way out'. All those money for grade schools seems wasted here.
Cast: 4.30/ 5.0. Although not the first class actors, they are pretty good and deliver their parts convincingly. Except for the stupid line, I was happy with the act.
Will I watch it again: Nah. Not worth it. If I were in the mood for a good scare in the future, this will not be my choice.
