Malaysians, we love our food
One of the most powerful and visceral things that bring Malaysians together is our frequent fellowship over food. In fact, asking “Have you eaten?” or, in Bahasa Malaysia, Sudah makan? is the common greeting or ice-breaker that sparks endless conversations and friendships, and this definitely isn’t about to go away anytime soon.

Beginning 21 September 2017, the UberEATS smartphone app will connect Malaysians with the food they love. Powered by the same pioneering technology that made ride-hailing a norm around the world, UberEATS lets Malaysian consumers enjoy the power of choice at the touch of a button for culinary experiences and greater dining choices in the comfort of their own home, or wherever they are.

The launch in Malaysia marks another milestone for UberEATS, which is presently in 27 countries and over 100 cities globally. Shri Chakravarthy Gopalakrishnan, General Manager of UberEATS (Malaysia & Singapore) said, “We are delighted to announce that UberEATS is now live in Malaysia! At Uber, we’re always looking for ways to bring Malaysians more choices at the touch of a button. This time, we are bringing consumers, restaurant-partners, and delivery-partners together in a digital marketplace celebrating Malaysia’s great cuisine and love of food. Using the power of Uber’s technology, we are going to help Malaysians enjoy the right food they want, right now - at the touch of a button.”

From “Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan” To “Tekan Butang, Mari Makan
With their hectic urban lifestyles, Kuala Lumpur foodies will no longer need to brave traffic, fight for parking, or line up in queues to enjoy the wide array of foods, beverages and desserts from over 200 restaurant partners available on the UberEATS app at launch.

Shri said, “With UberEATS, Malaysians can now tap a button and enjoy their favourite meals with comfort and convenience. We want you to be able to eat what you want, when you want. Whether you’re at the park, exploring the city, or coordinating dinner from your desk - find what you’re craving, tap a button, and we’ll handle the rest.”

Initial restaurants on the app comprise a mix of Malaysian favourites along with other Asian and Western delights from Kuala Lumpur-based restaurant partners. Among the restaurant partners currently active on the platform is Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, Inside Scoop, Sitka Restaurant and Mikey’s Original New York Pizza.

UberEATS will begin serving KL neighbourhoods, in the Kuala Lumpur central business district, Bangsar and Damansara Heights from 9.00am to midnight, seven days a week; with plans to grow quickly and in the near future. Payment will be made through credit and debit cards, with an initial delivery time of 35 minutes. There will be a RM5.00 delivery fee and no minimum order. Additionally, UberEATS Malaysia has worked closely with JAKIM to ensure its delivery methods address concerns over halal requirements.

More than just a delivery app
Beginning in Kuala Lumpur, the service aims to not only connect Malaysians with the food they love but to also contribute positively to the economy by providing additional earning opportunities and growing the markets for Malaysian restaurants.

For delivery partners, it is providing new economic opportunities with more vehicle options, at more times of the day. “Uber’s technology aims to make things better for all, and UberEATS is no exception. With this rollout, we are also creating flexible earning opportunities for more Malaysians who delight in connecting people with their food,” added Shri.

UberEATS technology will give restaurant owners the tools to improve their business with analytics and insights to make better data-driven decisions. Shri said, “For restaurants without an existing delivery service, UberEATS offers a reliable delivery option that allows them to expand their service offerings and reach a whole new network of potential customers.”

  3. Wow, Uber Indonesia haven't expanded their service to food delivery tho. They just started their UberDelivery for goods, but I'm not sure they send food as well. The most popular app for food delivery here is Gojek :D
