Welcome to #HPPNK17 & #MFF17
I just got back from Hari Peladang, Penternak & Nelayan Kebangsaan (HPPNK 2017 | #HPPNK2017) and Malaysia Food Festival (MFF 2017 | #MFF17) in Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

What's my thought about #HPPNK17 and #MFF17?
I totally love it.
I was there from 10 am until 4 pm and I still want to go again over the weekend.

Why?
Here are my reasons why.

1) Food Heaven
It was said that there will be more than 400 local delicacies will be on display throughout the event. And true to its promise, I think I saw more than 50 dishes throught the time I was visiting booths and halls.
Here are some of the food that I managed to take pictures off and tasted during my visit there.

2) Innovation
Yes, all products are produced based on local products by the locals - the unsung heroes of the country. Without each of them, there will be no rice, chicken, fish and other basic necessities that we took for granted. Thanks to their creativity and innovation, now we have a vast variations of usage for our local produce. There's Tuna Sate (by LKIM) and  several giant jackfruits on display, all thanks to the rigorous R&D done by local research institutes and entrepreneurs. In MARDI booth, I was in awe when I saw all the wellness and health products on display - all are based on our local produce too.
Kudos to FAMA for introducing AgroBazaar, an online platform for the entrepreneurs to sell their products to the whole country and the world too. And another innovative move is to introduce QR for all products - this move is to ease the buyer when they are searching for information about the products.

3) Support Local and Be Thankful
The main purpose of #HPPNK17 and #MFF17 is to support our local products and also to celebrate the unsung heroes who provided us with our food. Without them, I wonder what will be our daily meals be? All the fast food? Imagine that.

There will also be Agro Job Fair with 2,000 job openings, waiting to be filled. So hurry up and catch the opportunity.

4) Location
You can call me bias, but I think MAEPS is the best place to have a grand event such as HPPNK17.
Why?
It is near to Putrajaya, located almost in between of KLIA and Kuala Lumpur city center and IOI City Mall is located just next door to it!
It is the best place for a family to bond over our local produce and teach the young ones about the richness of Malaysia' resources.

Chasing The Dragon [Movie Review]

7:30 AM 25 Comments A+ a-

It has been quite some time since I last watched a Cantonese movie - I love the kungfu ones so whenever there are people flying, sword-fighting - I will either watch it on the silver screen or at home, streaming online.
Donnie Yen and Andy Lau
Thanks to RAM ENTERTAINMENT SDN BHD for inviting me to the premiere of Chasing The Dragon - a remake of a 1991 movie To Be Number One. It is of action crime, so still some fighting scenes there too.

The movie was set in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Ho came to Hong Kong from Mainland China with his buddies, trying to make ends meet. But jobs are scarce and at times, they join a 'fight' among gangs just to make some cash.
They have K-Pop, we are the H-Pop!
Their luck ran out when the 'fight' among two gangs went awry and they were captured by the police force, at that time was headed by the corrupt British police officer. They were tortured in their cell. A sergeant by rank, Lee Rock came up to their rescue and sent Ho to the hospital to receive treatments and gave the bunch some money to get them on their ways. Ho vowed that he will come to Lee Rock's assistance should he need one in the future.
A wedding reception?
Now a love triangle went wrong - so one must die.
Now who accuses me of farting in public?
Somehow, one of them was captured and tortured by a drug lord for cheating in his casino. In order to save his friend, Ho offered his services in assisting the drug lord. Ho's life changed for the better after he worked for the gang. Realising his potential, Lee Rock came to see Ho and offered to assist Ho in his operation should Lee Rock's was given some incentives.

When corruption is the king, anything and everything is possible - friends become enemies and enemies become associates.
Now how are we getting him out of here? He is HEAVY!
During one of the gang fights, in order to save Rock, he even sacrificed his right leg, hence becoming “Crippled Ho”. The two had since developed a close brotherly love. And Rock helped Ho to become the No.1 leader of the drug empire.

Rock and Ho became extremely powerful and separately ruled the upper-world and the underworld of Hong Kong. However, at the same time, they checked and wrestled with each other secretly to ensure the balance of power between them.
You wanted the cheapest mean of transport right?
A parade of men in unifroms - hehehe... naughty people!
Until 1974, the establishment of ICAC forced Rock to have a premature retirement. However, Ho did not want to quit and was determined to become the sole dictator of the drug empire.

What will happen to the brotherhood?

Plot: 4.8/ 5.0. It was intense from the start until the end - with so much brutal and gory actions through out the movie. The twist made you think of what is next and it keeps me awake until the end.

Cast: 4.9/ 5.0. I didn't watch To Be Number One but I am so taken by Donnie Yen and Andy Lau's acting that at some points, I had teary eyes. All actors did their parts justice and I applaud all of them for their commitments.

Will I watch it again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again.

The Venue - The One Stop Center For Your Wedding

7:30 AM 17 Comments A+ a-

It is almost the end of the year and normally in Malaysia, you will get invitations to weddings around this time too. And we all know what a tedious job it is to plan a wedding - at times the work could bring the bride and the groom almost to the end of their wits. The date, the location, the catering, the dresses, the makeup etc! It took an army to get the job done, most of the times.

Some couples take the easy route by engaging a wedding planner, leave it all in the hands of a stranger to plan the day of their lives. Lately, we've heard of some 'naughty' wedding planners who cheated their customers by getting a second or third class sub-contractors to assist them with the planning of the wedding. Sadly, the outcome is not as advertised/ promised by the planner to the couples. And due to that, some couples have taken their complaints to the public and to the authority.

The entrance to The Venue
Last weekend, I was invited to attend the Grand Open Day of The Venue in Shah Alam. I got there with the instructions of the ever helpful Google Maps [https://goo.gl/maps/mbTtFjF4UPP2], it was easy to find my way to The Venue.

Look at just how beautiful the front entrance of The Venue is. It greets you in such an elegant way that awes you at the sight of it. I was also happy to tell you that there is a lot of parking spots for the guests at the area, so no worry about having your guests to walk half a mile in their high heels when they are attending your wedding day.

The reception area is adequate for a table for guests to sign in, a table for presents and also a photobooth.

The huge hall where everyone will become the witnesses for your happy day
And then you enter the big hall - it is certainly a heavenly sight. The white tablecloth and the cream ceiling with chandeliers just feels like heaven. The big hall can seat up to 2,500 guests at one time, so no worries about not having enough seats for the whole families. I love the fact that the whole floor is completely carpeted, the hall is conveniently air-conditioned and the sound system is easy to the ears. And there are enough washrooms on the ground floor, so no worries about long queues for your quests too. Another great quality about The Venue is there are prayer rooms too on Level 1.

Talking about convenient, The Venue also serves as a one-stop-center for a wedding. Here at The Venue, the lovely couple could get great discounts if they book a wedding package. It is a one-stop-center as it lets you book the hall, choose your invitation card and dais design, choose your menu for the guests, the VIPs and the wedding cake, books your MUA and also the wedding dresses and not forgetting the wedding photographer and DJ. All of these comes with an event planner so that you will have an easy-breezy wedding.

Did I mention that if you book a wedding package at The Venue, you will get a one night stay at a hotel too? That is just neat, right?

As The Venue aims to assist you in your wedding planning, The Venue also lets you choose your own dress and MUA, if you prefer to have your own pick. And The Venue also has its list of vendors that could assist you in making your choices too. Here are some of the vendors that were present during the Grand Open Day.

Jom makan, Malaysia - UberEATS is here!

Malaysians, we love our food
One of the most powerful and visceral things that bring Malaysians together is our frequent fellowship over food. In fact, asking “Have you eaten?” or, in Bahasa Malaysia, Sudah makan? is the common greeting or ice-breaker that sparks endless conversations and friendships, and this definitely isn’t about to go away anytime soon.

Beginning 21 September 2017, the UberEATS smartphone app will connect Malaysians with the food they love. Powered by the same pioneering technology that made ride-hailing a norm around the world, UberEATS lets Malaysian consumers enjoy the power of choice at the touch of a button for culinary experiences and greater dining choices in the comfort of their own home, or wherever they are.

The launch in Malaysia marks another milestone for UberEATS, which is presently in 27 countries and over 100 cities globally. Shri Chakravarthy Gopalakrishnan, General Manager of UberEATS (Malaysia & Singapore) said, “We are delighted to announce that UberEATS is now live in Malaysia! At Uber, we’re always looking for ways to bring Malaysians more choices at the touch of a button. This time, we are bringing consumers, restaurant-partners, and delivery-partners together in a digital marketplace celebrating Malaysia’s great cuisine and love of food. Using the power of Uber’s technology, we are going to help Malaysians enjoy the right food they want, right now - at the touch of a button.”

From “Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan” To “Tekan Butang, Mari Makan
With their hectic urban lifestyles, Kuala Lumpur foodies will no longer need to brave traffic, fight for parking, or line up in queues to enjoy the wide array of foods, beverages and desserts from over 200 restaurant partners available on the UberEATS app at launch.

Shri said, “With UberEATS, Malaysians can now tap a button and enjoy their favourite meals with comfort and convenience. We want you to be able to eat what you want, when you want. Whether you’re at the park, exploring the city, or coordinating dinner from your desk - find what you’re craving, tap a button, and we’ll handle the rest.”

Initial restaurants on the app comprise a mix of Malaysian favourites along with other Asian and Western delights from Kuala Lumpur-based restaurant partners. Among the restaurant partners currently active on the platform is Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, Inside Scoop, Sitka Restaurant and Mikey’s Original New York Pizza.

UberEATS will begin serving KL neighbourhoods, in the Kuala Lumpur central business district, Bangsar and Damansara Heights from 9.00am to midnight, seven days a week; with plans to grow quickly and in the near future. Payment will be made through credit and debit cards, with an initial delivery time of 35 minutes. There will be a RM5.00 delivery fee and no minimum order. Additionally, UberEATS Malaysia has worked closely with JAKIM to ensure its delivery methods address concerns over halal requirements.

More than just a delivery app
Beginning in Kuala Lumpur, the service aims to not only connect Malaysians with the food they love but to also contribute positively to the economy by providing additional earning opportunities and growing the markets for Malaysian restaurants.

For delivery partners, it is providing new economic opportunities with more vehicle options, at more times of the day. “Uber’s technology aims to make things better for all, and UberEATS is no exception. With this rollout, we are also creating flexible earning opportunities for more Malaysians who delight in connecting people with their food,” added Shri.

UberEATS technology will give restaurant owners the tools to improve their business with analytics and insights to make better data-driven decisions. Shri said, “For restaurants without an existing delivery service, UberEATS offers a reliable delivery option that allows them to expand their service offerings and reach a whole new network of potential customers.”

Lulu Hypermarket Gets Into The Malaysia Book of Records

7:58 AM 27 Comments A+ a-

Hello beautiful people.
How are you doing today? Hope everything is going great for you too.

So how was your Hari Malaysia weekend?
Mine was full with attending history-making events in Klang Valley.

One of it was attending a record-attempt of 'The Longest Fresh Fruit Cake in Malaysia' by Lulu Hypermarket & Department Store.

But first, let us have a simple trivia about Lulu Hypermarket. Lulu Hypermarket & Department Store is a chain hypermarket, started in Dubai since 2000. Mr. MA Yousuf Ali is the founder and Managing Director of Lulu Group Retail International. Whereas, Lulu Hypermarket in Caps Square (beside Jakel Mall @ Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur) is the first chain in Malaysia and started operation a year ago. According to Deloitte, Lulu Hypermarket is among the Top 10 Fastest Growing Retailer in the World. Take that people!
The making of a history
In conjunction with the 2017's Hari Malaysia, Lulu Hypermarket attempted to create history by breaking the record of the 'The Longest Fresh Fruit Cake in Malaysia' which was set by Colmar Tropicale, Berjaya Hill of 90 m. So, in order to set up a new record, Lulu Hypermarket was set to create a 120 m fresh fruit cake and I was there to witness the attempt.

While waiting for the staff of Lulu Hypermarket done the cake decoration, my friends and I went for a tour. The hypermarket is of 3 storey high and it has literally everything under its roof - you name it, they have it.
  • Ground Floor: Hypermarket, Customer Service & Hot food
  • Level 1: Women's Clothing, Children's Clothing, Health Care & Grooming, Churidar & Saree
  • Level 2: Men's Clothing, Shoes, Sports Section, D.I.Y, Car Assecories
  • Level 3: Electronic & Electrical Goods, IT & Gadget

Another unique quality of Lulu Hypermarket is that it has the unique name for certain sections in the building:
  • Lulu Roastery: A vast variety of roasted nuts and dried fruits from all over the world
  • Lulu Celebrate: A colourful and vast display of Indian clothing - with superb discounts too!
  • Lulu Connect: Gadgets, electronic and electrical goods on amazing sale!
  • Lulu Bakery: It's a bakery with an amazingly low price for its items.
  • Lulu Sushi: You'll be spoilt for choices here too!
  • Lulu Delicatessen: Cheese, sambal and pickle lovers will love it here. A lot of choices and the olive oil sold here is cheap too!
And you know what happens when you are in a shopping mall that offers great discounts?

My haul.

24 items for RM200++ only. What a deal!
Let's get back to the record-breaking attempt.
It was quite intense, witnessing the representatives from The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) measured the cake. They put up signs for every 10 m. When it reached 100 m, the measuring tape entangled and it took them quite a while to untangle it.

It was like watching the last 2017 SEA Games - the football match between Malaysia and Indonesia - the feeling of intense and suspense was skyrocketing. And when the MBR representative put up the 120 m sign, the audience broke into applause, whistles, screams, and claps. Everybody was so happy that Lulu Hypermarket managed to break the old record of 90 m.
